Idea for Imbuing items

It is my understanding that when one tries to imbue an item and fails, only the ingredients are destroyed(used up) but the item is left untouched.

What if the item was destroyed as well as the ingredients? More like in lines with Lineage II and the enhancing of items done there. It would also keep down the uber items being produced. Imbuing as it is now, should be great risk and reward imo.

No, absolutely not. Not even an option. There are FAR better ways to deal with this skill than this. (And I happen to be one of the people who thinks imbuing is seriously overpowered currently).

I assure you, this is the WORST option for helping the situation.

The trouble with having the items be breakable is that then wouldn't the only people who even attempt high end items tend to be those who can afford to "waste" resources - wouldn't it shift the balance of the skill further towards being "powergamers only"?

This is what I discovered in my brief testing of imbuing this morning.

Imbue PLAIN leather item with 20% lrc, yay!

3 mods yet says I cannot imbue again, ok fine.

Now I need to dye it to match the rest of my armor.

Uh oh, its plain leather and CANNOT be dyed using major tokuno dyes, so...

Must enhance with a colored leather in order to make the imbued item dyeable and match the rest of my outfit.

*attempts to enhance*

Item is catastrophically destroyed or w/e that message is.

I really don't see the excitement over imbuing but I will go read up on it.

Could imbued items made of PLAIN leather and iron be made dyable with Tokuno dyes?

I'd ask for a way to make female gargoyles look a bit more feminine but I think that's impossible. Unless we can get hornrings?

Why? you have a brand spanking new "feature" called staining... and it dyes stuff to colors of different plants. Almost everything if I am not mistaken.

Like War says, sounds like you really need to read up on staining. I think you will like it!

Also, try using an EXCEPTIONAL plain leather item for your base, you will probably have better luck on the later properties ;)

hmm ... you'll probably want the pure white stain then (use "give plants" on Retribution to get some stuff to help).

( sorry, I don't know of a way to get vet reward items on test servers )

I just read Petra's guide to staining, must have missed where it says what the stains work on.

I am a bit sleepy.

The leather bustier that I used was exceptional with very nice resists and just 2 Mods or maybe one, was mana regen or mana increase, but not really sure why that gives better luck on later properties?

I just thought maybe I would be allowed to have something like 5 Mods max like you can get from a barbed runic kit.

Ah maybe it's because you can only imbue each item Once?

I am going hunting for the imbuing guide I saw a link to somewhere.

:)

Remember when you add resists they count as mods (this is true with runics, too).

There are some properties that are "weighted" and count as if you had added one property to 100% and one to between 10% and 40% (there is a list of these properties in the skill guide on uo.com), and those properties will cause an item to become "unstable" even though it is not, literally, at 500% intensity yet. So you have to choose your properties carefully, sometimes.

Also, remember that a gargoyle gets better chances to add a property, and that being at the soulforge in the middle of the Royal City also will give you a chance that you otherwise did not have (it turns those "negative" numbers into positives)

Stains work on ALOT of items that Tok. Dyes do not. Pretty much on anything you can hit with a dye tub, plus some!
