(Idea) Bards, now I know what is the missing piece...

About the mastery I always feel like something missing, now I got what is missing: the fourth mastery.

Provocation, Discordance and Peacemaking has one, but we have 4 skills and music itself is useless... adding a mastery to music only is useless, so what's missing?

A mastery with spells that requires all skills, something more powerfull to gave a 4x bard a purpose...
free lmc and bonus are great things, but this bonus can work even with 3 skills. The real missing thing is an exclusive power for the ones who invest 4x120 real points to barding skills.

Here is few ideas:

- Song of Shadows: make invisible the bard and all his party, attacking, speaking or any other thing that breaks invisibility, will break this effect for the party member.
Mana cost: 100 mana for activate (60 mana with 40 LMC) and 40 mana per seconds (with 40 lmc = 24 mana per second)

- Mistery Song of Death: the effect of this song vary based on the magic skills on your character:

- Chivalry: all the corpses around the bard will rest in peace (cannot be summoned by animate dead). The success is based on chivalry level.

- Necromancy: randomly cast animate dead to a corpse around the bard until you reach the max dead creature around you. The success is based on necromancy level.

- Magery: make explode a body near a bard's enemy. The success is based on magey and the damage on eval int.

- Spellweaving: drains energy from the nearest body (like spirit speak) by regenerating the bard's life and the life of his own pets. The maximum hp regenerable is half of the original creture life, once the corpse life force is over the body is unusable (even for spirit speak). The success is based on spellweaving and improved by spirit speak.

- Mysticism: give to the bard a chance of drain 10 mana from each corpse around the bard. The success is based on mysticism and scaled by focus (1 to 15 mana max per corpse)

The spell must be casted everytime you want to obtain the effect. This spell should also have a cooldown of 5-10 minutes. The magical skill level should be real and 0 magical skill = 0% success, 120 skill = 100% success.

not much, because this mastery would require 120 real in all 4 skills so you won't be overpower at all :p
unless in 240 pt you'll be able to fit something really powerfull :D

Actually the point of bard mastery was to choose one skill and master it. A fourth mastery involving all three skills put together suggests you missed the point on what a mastery is ;P. Not saying there can't be additions, but the mastery system wasn't intended to involve all three skills at once.

Anyway, body drains and explosions and the like are best kept in the realm of Necromancy. Doesn't make sense to me to have Magery or Mysticism trigger corpse effects, although I'd vote to make the Chivalry spell a new addition to the Chivalry book, because it would be quite useful against Necros in PvM (and maybe a reason to acquire 120 chivalry since there's no point in having more than 115 at the moment).

As for "Song of Shadows," what's the point on invising a whole party when you can just area peace for nearly the same effect? I mean, you'd have to have 180 mana for 5 seconds of invis time ... I guess that could be useful ... not really sure. If you're just talking about invisibility without stealth, I'd just assume area peacemake or throw a confusion pot.

I always like the idea of additions, but this needs some thought.

I tend to look at us Bards as supportive and less offensive.

However, I don't mind masteries that involve assisting others (and perhaps pets or provokes) to increase THEIR damage.

For instance,

Protection Mastery -- increases party (or all players in range) resists by +5 at 100 Peacemaking, to +25 at 120 peacemaking. If Bard has over 100 Music the group also gets +1 HP regen for each 5 points (up to +4 at 120) while the effect is running. If Bard is interrupted or stops playing (ie casts a spell), the effect is ended and can't be restarted for 5 minutes.

Anger Mastery -- increases party (or players within range) damage increase by +5 at 100 to +25 at 120 Provocation. If Bard has over 100 Music, the group also gains +5 Hit Lower Defense for each 5 points up to +20 HLD at 120. If bard is interrupted or stops playing the effect ends and can't be restarted for 10 minutes.

Spiritual Mastery -- increases party or players within range spell damage by +5 at 100 to +25 at 120 Discord. If Bard has over 100 Music, the group also gains +2 Mana regen up to +8 at 120 Music. If bard is interrupted or stops playing the effect ends and can't be restarted for 10 minutes.

Bardic Mastery -- decreases mana use for all mana-using abilities and skills by -25% at 100 to -40% at 120. If bard has 120 in all four skills, group also gets 30% hit mana and hit life leech. If bard is interrupted or stops playing the effect ends and can't be restarted for 10 minutes.

While these Masteries are playing, Bard gets 10% of fame/karma from creatures that the group fight, and is entered on the damage lists of creatures attacked based on 5% of damage of each person fighting (so, if 5 people are attacking some super dragon, each doing 50+ damage, the Bard is entered on the damage list with 5% of the damage of each of the people, or 2.5*5=12.5.)

Similar effects do not stack, but multiple bards can be playing each of the Masteries. All effects are continuous, but the Bard cannot be interrupted in any way. Hits and spell damage have a 25% chance to interrupt.

This makes the Masteries important for a groups, but also usable in lesser situations -- even in PvP. However, it makes the Bard much more a target and thus would need more protection to ensure they can continue to benefit everyone.

Those are all great ideas. It would be nice to see the bard masteries given a bit more love. Like the idea of mastery use adding bards to the damager list too

Ok, but this should be THE bard mastery, so with this you are not a master in 1 skill, but a Master Bard.

The spells are just random ideas, but your idea to add the "rest in peace" spell to chivalry is a better idea.... maybe should works like consacrate weapon and every monster killed while the weapon is under this effect will rest in peace.

as counter part the corpse explosion should be added to necromancy :p

this could works, but the requirements should be at least 90 real in all 4 bardic skills...
the point is to give an advantage to who is going to invest lot of real points in all 4 skills, because this greatly reduce the characters fighting options...
for example, if you invest in 4 x 120, you have 240 points remaing (at 720 cap) that means magery + eval (120 + 120) or magery + medit (120 + 120). In both cases the character has very few attack choices:
- Magery + Eval: good damage but very few shots without medit
- Magery + Medit: very low damage with mind blast but lot of shots

so adding this mastery should add some extra attack/defense choice and let this kind of template be more self-sufficient instead of being the party booster doll :D

It's all about having the right template. I have a Bard with Four 120 barding skills. I added fencing and a touch of spell weaving. and a taste of necro. I use wraith form and summon a group of pixies. I kill blood elms, balrons, Swoops, and much much more. Curse weapon to heal and use the bard spells. I is a damage monster. So many ppl don't have the imagination I do when building and playing a bard. It can be done. I can now use the bard spells and never run out of mana and still be doing very nice damage. Mix this with the right slaying and you can solo just about most critters.. There are those that are imune to bards and those are the only only I need a tank with me to fight. With spell weaving Dryad's Allure and a Low land boura come in very handing. I would like to see the other music skill have more effect on a bards life for sure.
