I won the Abyss house...

Sorry for the ploy to get you to read my post, but I was thinking about this a bit and there must be some way to make the single house so compelling. Here are some of my thoughts on what to do with a winning ticket and want to know yours.

1. Place a private house
2. Trade it for a castle in fel
3. Make a generic vendors house with wares and goods to sell
4. Make it the central hub of all trading in UO.

Here is what I mean by item four. I could place a mailbox that allows people to place a house teleporter tile, 1 million gold for a years rent and a book with contact information about them to coordinate the tile placement and removal.

What does this do you wonder? I would have a single location that vendors and house communities outside of Luna could have a direct hub to travel. This would allow communities to be reached easily as well as other vendors outside of Luna to be found to view their wares for sale.

My Abyss house could be the central hub for all trade and each floor could have a sale item type if the renter wanted or maybe floor one are communities.

What would you do?

If I can have it as a second house on my account id probably claim the ticket and develop it into something worthwhile for the community - a safe haven from the rest of the abyss and a well stocked, reasonably priced vendor shop with a soulforge and rep area as well as hitching posts. Id also give it a well themed decoration, if I cannot have a classic house design.

If I cannot have it as a second house, I would keep the ticket and display it. No way would I sell it unless I felt someone was going to turn it into something cool.

I would make the abyss house an outpost, like its supposed to be.

There would be a crafting spot for each profession included in the house, so that repair deeds are easier to use.

I would keep each vendor stocked with the necessary items for survival in the abyss, bandages, reagents, arrows, bolts, repair deeds, scrolls and anything that may be of use.

And I like the teleporter idea proposed by the OP.

I would also allow other players to place a vendor in my house, as long as they keep it stocked.

I bet half the tickets won will be like this and there will be no houses in the abyss on some shards. Just curious, have the devs thought about people x-sharding the ticket onto a different shard to claim the house? Will the tickets be shard specific in some way?

Nothing sinister behind my reasoning, like x-sharding, or selling, or whatever.

My first UO house was one of those small marble workshops, on Fire Island, LS. I paid, I think, 4 or 500k for it. Within 2-3 weeks of purchase, there was a glitch on LS, and the spawn literally ran amok - there were dozens of just about every one-2 hit mobs on screen that you could think of at any point and time. You couldn't leave the house, because you couldn't get back. It took almost a month for the dev team to figure out what they screwed up.

I'm simply not interested in a replay of that situation, in any form. Not all of my characters are designed for even light PvM. Nor should they have to be. Honestly, I'd prefer NOT to win - I think the house should be used as a couple have described - an outpost in the wilderness, for the benefit of all. But I do have the right to do the quests, and reap the rewards.

Come to think of it, I can think of a certain guild on LS I would consider donating it to... one that at least makes an active attempt to bring the community together. A house in the Abyss would make a great starting off point for their endeavors...

I have dreams of getting one and building a very nice, very tactful service station and outpost of the entire shard either for the Gargoyles or for the Human/elves... Either way I would make it public give it easy access to those who desire entry to the abyss and provide vendor rental to those wishing to assist the outpost.

I'd provide crafting stations.... and the place would of course be as well designed and decorated as all my homes, as THAT is where MY true love in UO lies.

But that's my dream. And if I have to lose one of my existing homes to do so then so be it.

Oh ...... and Likely I'd move my Tavern there.

I'd keep it as an outpost too, but I would also make it a multi-function house for everyone to use. It would be a safe haven for those in the abyss to escape to, or even just to hang out. I'd also probably allow people to put vendors up if they wanted. Each floor of the house would serve a purpose for the public and the queen as she would want it to be. Every gargoyle, human, and elf would be welcome to come to the house, for any reason of their choosing, for crafting purposes, and/or buying/selling/trading things. The outpost house would serve its purpose to the fullest for the entire shard. It would even be decorated nicely to have a sense of comfort and enjoyment.

what you two would do with the home would be awesome, but you know a lot of people would just wait to sell it, use it for only them ect. that's why I'm against the idea. Let's say people on LS get to use a multi-use home with vendors to restock ect ect, but on Europa it's a private plot of land, it changes gameplay on each server due to only one persons wants. to me, that's rather silly.

if by some fluke all servers have what you both want, then that would be awesome.

If I won, it would have to be a a place for the benefit of the entire shard. No vendors, but plenty of donation boxes for everyone to contribute supplies. And I'd hire Sarsmi immediately to decorate!

btw, what u guys think it could be a good price for the deed? i guess the deed will worth more than a tram castle. Probably a big guild will do a big difference owning a abyss house.

If I win one, and I hope I do (duh), I'll link it up to my public Zento house with a teleporter into a nice public area with a soul forge, regular forge and anvil, etc, maybe a little pub as well? Set up a few vendors with bandages, BOS, armor suits, arrows, and anything else that would be useful to adventurers, and another teleporter to a private area for myself so that I don't get pked.

Rules in the outpost:

No fighting or stealing inside of the building, (either zento or in the abyss) or you get banned.

A real safe area, and a neat place to hang out for people.
