I want a ride

Hi. I'm extremely new to this game. I'm a nightelf druid and only at level 9. Am I able to get something to ride on (mount) yet or do I have to reach a certain skill level or something? When or if I'm ready, how do I go about doing it?

You can not get a mount until level 40 and you will have to pay 90 gold (minus any reputation reward you have) to learn to ride and then 10 gold for a mount that goes 60% faster than run speed.

At level 60 you can pay 900 gold (minus and reputation reward) to learn to ride a fast mount that goes 100% faster than run speed.

At level 70 you can get a flying mount. I think it's 100 gold for the slow one and 5,000 gold for the epic fast one.

As a Druid you will have a cat form that goes faster than run speed, I think it's 40% faster than run speed, but I'm not sure what level as I don't play a Druid.

There are also PvP mounts you can get for turning in 30 of each PvP battleground token.

20th Level I think, but like Edward I do not play Druids.

Additionally, as a Paladin and a Warlock instead of forking out all that gold, you get a spell at 40th level that lets you summon a mount.

Final thought, had you chosen a Draenei Shaman, at 20th level, you could change to 'travel form' which is a wolf that moves at 40% speed increase.

All in all, the players in that immense world around you, all walked everywhere until 40th level. I groaned and groaned on my main until I hit 40th and got a mount, but since then, 1st to 40th level really goes by quite quickly.

The two runs I hate to make though would have to be from Menethil Bay, in the Wetlands to Iron Forge, (the Night Elf run) and the run from the top of STV to the bottom end into Booty Bay.

Hope that helps. Just rest assured knowing, everyone around you had to run til 40th and once you get a mount, you will look at the walkers of the world a little differently.

You get a cat form at 20, but that's your feral cat form. The Travel form comes later....at 30? I believe

As a hunter you get aspect of the cheetah and aspect of the pack that makes you go faster. But no mounts till 40. Sorry!

I notice that some NPCs have mounts a lower levels. I think they're using an exploit.

Yes, your right, at 20th Druid, you get cat form. At 20th Shaman, you get wolf form which is 40% run speed increase.

Good point on the Hunter aspects though!

I am a Tauren Druid and at level 20 you only get the feral cat form of a lion...I'm level 24 and still have not recieved my cheetah form which is 40 percent faster run speed. The one thing you will find out quickly about Wow is that it does not baby you like UO and other games...you actually have to WORK and work hard to get to special things and rewards...you work hard and at lower levels you are VERY lucky to make like 3 gps a day...and that's like working eight hours...I am level 24 skinner, leatherworker and if I bust my hump skinning in eight hours of real play I might make 3 to 4 gps...Wow make's you work for what you get, but you know what? It makes it that much sweeter knowing that it wasn't handed to you on a silver platter like in other MMORPG"S.

Again, having no clue how to play a Druid, as I cannot get past the bear BUTT at the shape change of 10th? level, I have no clue about thier skills.

But for Shaman, I just hit 20th last night on my Draenei and I got the wolf form that allows me to run in that form at +40% normal speed.

I love it.

I believe Cheetah Travel form is 30. Not positive. I will know tonight when I look it up or ask my buddy druid.

Currently I'm the only druid in the guild. Been tanking up on healing bonus armor and its been nice.

For druids:

Level 10 is bear form (like a warrior in mail armor).

Level 16 is sea lion form, so you can go under water without having to come up for air and also increase speed underwater by 50%.

Level 20 is cat form, and if you put 2 talent points in the feral tree under Feline Swiftness, you gain 30% speed increase outdoors.

Level 30 is cheetah travel form, which is 40% speed increase.

Level 40 you can buy a mount like everyone of that level, which is 60% increase (total cost of buying mount and training the riding skill is about 90-100 gold). Also, at level 40, you get dire bear form (like a warrior in plate).

Level 60, you can buy epic mount, which is 100% speed increase (cost is less now, like about 540-600g).

Level 68, you can be trained to change into a StormCrow, flying form in the Outlands (60% speed increased). This form bypasses the need to be trained to ride a regular flying mount BTW (which is about 900-1000g if I remember right), meaning druids get a free flying training/form. Just go to your trainer and pay him like 7g to train the skill, so we save about 1000g.

Level 70, you can buy epic flying mount, which is 280% speed increase if I remember right (total cost is 5200g or so).

Has UO gone that far down the tube?

Except for repair costs, death has no penalty what soever in WoW. Unless you insurre everything in UO you loose it when you can't make it back to your body.

In WoW you get rez-sickness if you allow to be rezzed at the graveyard, but you almost always can get back to your body and rez at a safe spot. In UO you must be next to your body to loot it.

In UO when the server crashes, you just hope they just made a backup of the database, otherwise you may log in in the middle of a dungeon.

I can go on, but IMHO WoW is written with the convienience of the player in mind, UO has only added those conveniences (mostly badly implemented) to try to keep up with the newer games.

Having said that I enjoy WoW tremendously, but I also enjoyed UO for years.

In my opinion, they're two different games. They really cannot be compared.

As one of the people lucky enough to play the pre-alpha UX:O, I can tell you it was so much like how WoW turned out, I was astounded when I started playing WoW. Why EA pulled the plug on UX:O, I'll never know. I was seriously ready to plunk down money for the pre-alpha. They had quests, personalized instances, attribute trees, etc. etc. etc.

Ah, well.

There's a new UO coming out within the next few months... supposed to be very different from what they currently have, a whole different user interface etc.... And then a few months after that, they will be releasing another new product which will allow a new playable race (garygoyles) and a bunch more "stuff"

I'm a UO player that currently plays both WOW and UO ... and love aspects of both.

I used to play uo a long time ago.. wow..

As for the new UO expansion, I saw a screenie of the new client and it is pretty impressive, all things considered. Not enough to get me to play it again, but impressive nonetheless.
