This is meerly an idea, I don't care who gets credit for it so long as the idea lives on. Instead of creating my own free shard, or joining another's, I would gladly pay to reenter the Britannian landscape.

The idea:
Destroy what we all know as the current UO. Not in the typical sense that the reader might be thinking. I'm thinking of removing Malas, Felucca, Takuno, and the new, fancy Elven lands. Leave Trammel (as the non-consensual PVP zone, same map), then turn Ilshenar into the new Felucca (as the consensual PVP zone).

Recode the maps to more of a desolate land. Make every current city into a semi-dungeon, where they've been overrun with various cults of mobs. Create one new town in the direct-center of Britannia as the only hub the players have. Instead of adding new land masses, add new levels to each dungeon.

Let's give an idea of what I'm after, using Britain as an example. Bring Blackthorne, or Minax, or even Nystul into the castle as the leader of that "city". In Blackthorne's old castle (in the far North), have an underling reside there. Both of these would have the same stats as the current Champs do, maybe even Paragon-Champs. For the regular spawn throughout the city, have corrupt guards, decaying hounds, insane mages and alchemists, evil archers, and every other spin of current resident, reside within the city. Even build new watch-towers on the outskirts of Britain and house a mini-spawn there as well.

With Yew and Skara, make that the corrupted Elven land, same general idea as Britain, but with Elves as the theme. Down in Trinsic, have fallen Paladins and other fallen 'holy' "classes" reside there. Maybe Magincia could house the Liches and other "warlocky" types. With the Zoo being there, this would be a good time to introduce Tamer-type mobs into UO. With the Hedge-maze, bring in some followers of the "Armageddon Cult" (can't remember the names). See where I'm going with this yet?

With Ilshenar, leave the NO-gate, NO-Mark, NO-Recall-IN (but able to recall out if not the aggressor) rule. Make this land red-friendly. Use the same theme-ideas to code this land.

Reformat the current 'legacy' dungeons. Continue to release new levels.

Remove Powerscrolls, and recode everything to the old 100-max system. Instead, bring in the Talent/Advancement/whatever system. Use this as a gold-sink. Something like 1million gp per point. Have every mod currently in-game be purchaseable. Redo the armor/weapons back to pre-AOS styles.

The idea is to reduce the land mass, and make it more used at the same time. The idea is to revitalize, and revolutionize the game. Make me want to come back to Britannia, and my characters feel vibrant. Sure, this is only a rough idea, but I hope the message is passed.

No, but hungry people do.

Some additional thoughts... We are still working through a total remake of the game interface (KR). I would not be for a huge slew of new changes for any reason till all of the current issues are resolved and KR is fully operational... AND.. we have our promised Stygian Abyss expansion.

When I returned to the game I had to re-learn a lot of stuff. Then they killed 3D so I had to re-learn some things for 2D (If they had a fully working KR out when they killed 3D I would have skipped the 2D part). Now I'm trying to learn KR while I'm playing in 2D. I feel like I should be getting college credits for this or something.

A career requires constant training to keep up... a game shouldn't require that kind of commitment.

Safe Travels, Sam

More interesting would be if we could kidnap some seers to do a 'classic' expansion.

Every 6 month another facets gets opened with storylines and ongoing content.
Probably would have to do things a bit different this time
Start with Trammel then with a storyline introduce Felucca with Minax with Factions with a real pvp system.

Later on Ilshenar, Malas, and Tokuno all with storylines interwoven.

Those were generic, huge names used throughout the existance of UO. You could even throw Dawn or Dupre in there. The idea for each current city was to make it a mini-dungeon, with 1 or 2 leaders thrown into the mix.

There are too many facets now, where does the general mass visit? A slew of duneon spots, and maybe 2 cities? We need a reduced landmass, which is useful in it's entirity.

Much the way of UXO and UO2, let's scrap Stygian Abyss and the Kingdom Reborn client. Maybe leave the client as an alternative to the isometric, 2D client, but what the heck. What is the one thing that every buisness says, at some point in time? "Let's get back to basics."

'To build a house, you need a good foundation.' [insert any other analogy here]

Instead of placing houses throughout the land, make an instanced area (much like FFXI has) for each player's house. With this, each house could even have a yard or lawn. Instead of going 'into' the house, and only being able to see the inside of the house, make the instance area be like a 25x25 area (so that you could still place an 18x18 and have a yard. Or heck, you could even make the whole 25x25 (-1 tile for entry to the area) a mansion. Introduce new tiles so that you could really make a smithy, or a tailor shop, or even a stable/garden on the plot. If the player wishes for others to come for a visit, all they'd need do is party with whoever they wanted to come along.

One could even take this idea further, and have players purchase their instanced area together, to make a miniature town, or one humongous guild house.

With the instance, allow players to place 1, one, ONE, vendor within the central city. Make a city-square for this, sort of a market-theme.

I'm actually very surprised that the Blackthorn character didn't migrate to Tabula Rasa like Lord/General British. Blackthorn was always Starr Long's alter-ego like LB was to RG.

On a side-note, it's pretty cool when Richard Garriott joins [General] chat in TR. He will occasionally drop in and chat for a few minutes. Kinda like he used to do with UO when it first launched.

I plead to return to UO ..

mmmm ... well ... ya can "come back" ...assuming you left on good terms ...
So ... really ... no pleading necessary ... trial account for a looky see ... reactivate an old account ... wait for a return to Brit for free offer ...

doable ...

Making it conditional on not only rolling out a red carpet for your return ...
but rebuilding an/all entire shard/s to make you feel welcome, comfortable and on the same level (square one)

Not too likely

"The idea:

Actually ... sounds pretty typical ...

Basically a rephrasing of "Make the game "new" For Me" (cause maybe everyone would like it)

*Shrugs* how about ... First ... you come back and see if you can hang?
you can (assuming you left on good terms ) do it for free, one months fee, new account ... lotsa options
Ya know ... test the waters ... dip your toe in at least

LOL

Wow. Delete the landmasses that many many people enjoy, that you have not, since you know, you don't play anymore.

Delete this, delete that, since you don't have anything that you have achieved lately, since you don't play anymore.

Do all this, so you can be on par with everyone else, who has played and is currently playing now.

All for you.

Yeaaaaaaa.

-1 points

No soup for you.

These are not the droids your looking for. Move along. Move along.

Make this land red-friendly.

This here tickled me Elmo. Had to comment on this too. Reds are murderers. Why should anything be friendly to them? Bad ideas man. Most of this stuff would go over about as well as a fart in an elevator.

I'm not saying your content ideas are all off base (the town stuff), just that I think your idea of what makes a fun game, especially for a long time UO player, or even newer ones for that matter, oh hell everyone, is way outta line.

I actually agree that we need less land than we have, but I don't think going and deleting mass lands are the way to do it.

I'm replying to myself to catch the general replies here.

Instead of openly bashing the ideas, why not build upon them and form great ideas to make the game better as a whole? I always find it easier to use other's comments as a muse, or inspiration. Instead of condemning and not providing constructive feedback, I choose to channel those ideas into others that will benefit more.
