I now understand why some hate the EC

I jut got an old dinosaur of a computer to work again so I installed the EC for $h@#s & giggles.

The computer is about ten years old and only has 512k memory. It's a sad little computer

Anyway, while trying to use the EC on this thing I finally see what people are complaining about when they mention "choppiness" and "motion sickness"

If your computer can't run the EC properly there is definite motion sickness. It's the weirdest thing I've ever experienced on a computer.

This disappoints me greatly because lots of people are missing out on what I think is a really good interface that can only get better as time marches on.

I hope the people who have experienced all this stuff don't write it off as normal and assume the EC is a hunk of junk. I hope if ever they can upgrade their equipment that they give the EC just one more chance because on a computer that can handle it, it is quite stable and fluid.

Yes but you have to say that you dont need a 1000$ machine to handle it i would say nearly any new bougth PC in walmart can handle it now fluent. What you need to play good is like this:

AMD X2 3800 or Intel Core2
1024 MB Ram
ATI X1800 or NV GF 7

thats it should run also fine on this machines.

I hope the EC will get some attention soon, it should be ready if you really would test it. Atm it is on a good way but not ready, it definiftly needs artwork, effectswork and a bit coresystem work.

Yes, very true.

My lap top which runs the EC beautifully is definitely not the top of the line. It's a common, middle ground Sony Vaio about 2 years old. It wasn't the worse they offered but it was far, far from their best as well.

Video memory is only 512k but it has lots more regular memory than the old dinosaur.

And as a result I only play the EC now because it is so much more functional. It took me a couple months to get used to the 'press enter first to speak' thing but that was just me not adapting quick enough I hardly ever set off a whole gaggle of macros anymore when I try to say hi


It just sucks that a lot of folks believe the EC to be junk but will probably never know how good it can be. First impressions last a very long time. I'm glad my first EC experience was on the laptop.

I used the enter-to-talk option for a while, but I went back to legacy speech. I made a few generic speech buttons in the meantime while I was still fumbling around. If someone came by and said hello, I could hit my hello button immediately.

I've never experienced motion sickness in any setting - gaming, travel, intoxication, etc - but I probably have an undiagnosed vestibular disorder of some kind. Wii Fit tested my balance and asked me if I ever have trouble standing up unaided.
