...I love the KR client. I mean, when it works.

The macros/hotkeys take a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, UOA/2D seems primitive by comparison. Plus, the map is splendidly done, and the zoom in and out feature is nice.

I think the graphics in KR are gorgeous. Sure, the client has problems, but it's getting there.

Flame on.

I will admit that i am using the KR client more and more now. But i do have to admit there are still a few things that bug me in the KR client. I will also go one step farther and say it has improved drastically in the one year it has been out.

Agreed 100%, and it works great for me (only a few features that need to be implemented or tweaked, but all of the game-stopping and crash bugs are gone, at least from my setup anyway).

I'm quite a bit annoyed right now though because they need to get the rest of the client polished up.

However, if people give the client the chance, and allow their brains to re-train their familiarity to the new graphics, they'd be surprised at what the KR client can do.

And to take it even further, check out the player created user interfaces for even more useful functionality * insert plug for Bitter Black 2.0 here*.

I hope it doesn't get set aside the way the 3d client does. The potential is still there, it just needs some more work to get there.

Glad to see a KR convert!

No I don't think you're alone. I love KR so much that for the first time in 4 years, despite all the changes to UO that I absolutely detest, I still find something attracting me back to the game.

Graphics are comparatively better in some areas, but many of the creatures and most of the items look awful, and my ferret neither looks nor moves anything like one.

Zoom existed in 3D, and there's nothing feature-wise that is more easy to use in KR than it was in 3D. KR is only an improvement to 2D users, and that depend of which features you are talking about.

KR lacks very basic features, such as...

1) The ability to communicate with other players: every guild I have ever been in EXCLUSIVELY uses the in-game chat, but in KR, you can't get a list of existing rooms, which means you never know wether to join a room your guildmate made or to make one yourself (since room names may change), and once in the room you can't get an updated list of players in the room (standard in 2D and 3D), no can you talk with them without typing in c/ "full room name" before each utterance.

Example:
In 2D or 3D, you click on the in-game chat window and type "Hi".
In KR, you type "/c verylongguildroomname Hi." EVERY TIME, letter by letter.

So, as much as I'd like to use KR, as long as I want to communicate with my guild, it is quite impossible.

2) The ability to organize your backpack. You'd think something this basic to functunality would have been fixed during beta, but IT'S BEEN A YEAR NOW!
So, as much as I'd like to use KR, as long as I want to stock my vendors, it is impossible.

3) The ability to go up ladders placed in custom houses. Again, one might think that such a small detail would never have existed in the first place, but there it is.

So, as much as I'd like to use KR, as long as I want to walk through my house, it is impossible.

4) The ability to walk 2 screens without crashing. You'd hope a PC that can run LOTR Online at MAXIMUM graphics would be able to run KR, but hey, KR is the newer game, right?

So, as much as I'd like to use KR, as long as I want to avoid restarting my PC every 5 minutes, it is impossible.

5) The ability to sit on a mount without looking like a total git. Is everyone at EA really blind to how the avatar's leg falls though the mount?

So, as much as I'd like to use KR, as long as I want to avoid cringing at the piss-poor graphics, it is impossible.

I could go on, and on, and on. I was an EXCLUSIVE 3D player. I loathed 2D, right up until they took away my 3D and gave me the choice between the 2D and the ... um, what to call it really, since "a game client" refers to a program by which one can play the game, and KR certainly is not that... word's really can not describe this thing called KR.

They took away my house(3D) with the promise of a mansion(KR). They delivered a mud-hut(KR), so I moved to a trailer home(2D). That just about sums it up for KR, imo.

OP, yes I like KR

... this guy, to chat with my guild I type:

/g hi friends

... to chat with our alliance I type:

/a hello alliance

That is pretty good and I am glad I don't click anywhere to do it. I'm sure your referring to some kind of superguild chat that is much more advanced than my simpleton's guild chat, but /g works to get me chatting with my guild

Also...
/s = speak
/p = party

There others prolly, but I do not know or remember them.

If KR client was finished and not frustrating at every moment you find yet another bug or graphic glitch, there would still be animations to be reworked.
We could have far better than those zombie animations when the character is walking or running, correct animations for mounts, etc.
I can't call legacy client primitive yet.

I look forward to being able to try it. When they bring out a disk with it (and all patches to date) ill buy it and try it.

I got the original disk but it was lost in the move between houses, when i removed KR from my comp and realized that i didnt have the disk i was a little frustrated. But the disk is less then half of the KR client, theres been more added as patch then whats on the disk. So im not going to just go abd downoad the lot, let alone i cant do that for free anywhere.

Why cant they make it a 'play off the disk' style thing? Like have the basic map on a disk that it uses, might speed things up a bit.

Until they can have you manage vendors and such like 2D... Ill use 2d more often then not.

I like KR. They are just lacking on vending badly.

Your not alone.

The only thing that has kept me from using it alone is that a couple of the keyboard shortcuts dont work. Sounds stupid but I am an AutoCAD Tech, I live and die by keyboard shortcuts.

Why in the Abyss would you think you're alone on that?

Have you been to the KR Forum?

KR has plenty of fans.

It has some problems, but as far as being up to date with current state of computer interfaces and graphics, there is simply no need to comapre the legacy client with KR.
It seems some UO players like the feeling of "home", they get with the legacy client, but I just like to move on than to linger in the past.
I hope I'll never get so "old" (in mind not in years), that I will fear change

I don't like it. It's 3D over done. That's all. 2D was here long before 3D. 2D is the only one that has survived. KR is what the people that played 3D want and that's all. If I wanted to play a playstation game, KR would be perfect.

I make myself play KR ~5 hours a week. And I still hate it. It still lags my system (3.0ghz, 8 gig ram, 150gb 10,000 x2 HD's in raid0, 1TB storage drive and Nvidia 8800 GTX) when running around luna (and no, the 2d client doesn't lag me at all).

The chat system is horrible and outdated.

Instead of trying to re-invent the wheel, they should just use the chat system like what's in EQ. Same with the chat windows and their functionality.

The artwork seriously needs cleaned up. It is still ugly and muddy.

I like the hotkey bars. I loved them in EQ, and love them more now.

The hot key's are the only thing I like about KR, and wish they were added to the 2d client.

Just tried it again for the first time in about 6 months. logged in fine and remembered how much I don't know about it. Logged out and back in using 2d client to do something. When I tried to log back in with KR it kept telling me "connection lost" however I could log in using 2D. Looks like 2d is still for me.

I like the images. I havn't downloaded it yet though because I'm waiting for the majority of people to say the client is ready. Which I don't hear yet.

If you go by the standard of most of the complainers, then KR will never be ready! But then... 2D still isn't ready either... There are still bugs that have existed since the original UO-Beta!

With a very few minor issues that I can work around (just as I learned to with 2D), KR is fully playable for me.

Tazar , I and many others can live with minor bugs - old 3D also had its share - but repeatly crashing or KR not running atall on a machine is not minor.
There is no point in discussing - KR is FAR from ready to be a client that needs no more serious development ! - I would say the client is currently 40% to max 55% ready

While I haven't even logged into KR lately, when I Beta'd it, I had so much trouble adjusting to things even with only 2 years of playing in 2D to 'cement' that skillset (I'm a late joiner to UO) that I gave up. Logged in a while later to test the supposedly great macro system. It didn't work the way it was said to and UOA worked just as well in 2D, so I gave up again.

If I log in today and try it, I can almost guarantee it will lock up at least once during login/logout/character switching, lag 3x more than 2D, the graphics will still give me headaches (they're too soft around the edges, and I can't see specific objects at all when I run because they blur), and the hotbars will not make up for having to hit 'enter' before I say anything because I'm used to just starting to type and when I do that in KR it opens up 3 or 4 hotkey menus that I don't even know the hotkeys for, and I'll have to close them all before trying again.

No thanks. Give me my 2D. KR might have some benefits and I don't mind it having fans but to me it's just a headache and hard to use, and will probably stay that way until they implement all the features (and maybe some of the bugs) that 2D has, and then give me a better crafting system on top of it. Right now my worst gripe about 2D is that the artists made the colored plants all one color instead of giving them green leaves. Not exactly game-ending.

In KR you can switch to legacy chat, meaning you don't have to hit enter to type.

See, that wasn't a feature I knew about last time I logged in. Nice to have it now... the graphics still bug me though. If you look at a picture of 2D next to a picture of KR, say, staring at the same house in both, you'll see a LOT more fuzziness around the edges in KR, and I can't seem to get used to that.

i like hitting "enter" to chat, it's a common future in todays mmos, games, chat rooms, icq, msn, yahoo, trillian, omg even on your cellphone, i-mac, i-pod, java chats, irc chats, browsergames with shoutboxes, browsergames with ajax chats...

holy crap, i love to hit "enter" just to talk !

Allow me to clarify. My guild doesn't use the guild chat. Why? Because if we did, our visitors wouldn't be able to hear us. Our guild often has visitors, who just pop in to our in-game chat room. And once you have clicked on the chatroom window in 2D, you don't need to click on it again and again, and you don't need to bother typing ANYTHING before what you want to say.

(Not intended to insult you, but possibly, you don't even know that this wonderful feature exists, since I have yet to meet a Westerner who uses this feature of the game system (though I've no idea why)).

KR's equivalent of 2D and 3D's in-game chat room system is a jumbled mess of uselessness. Even IF all the other problems were fixed, so long as I'm in my guild and so long as any of my guildmates continue to use 2D and its chat system, there is no possibility of switching to KR.
