So a friend has recently talked me into coming back and I activated a few of my old accounts. I left just after AoS but had been playing since '98.

My accounts were in suspended status when I reactivated them and they did not age. That got me to thinking that I had a few mid range and 1 GM tamer amungst my accounts.

I know that at one time there was a type of nightmare that was referred to as a pre-patch nightmare. I beleive these were maybe the ones that were around when T2A was first released and were stronger than the ones post trammel.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this sort of thing has happened with the past releases where some of my stabled critters may be for lack of better terms better or worse than the abilities of the same beasts in todays uo.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks for reading and any information you can give or point me to is appreciated.

Yes, there are many kinds of rare and pre-patch pets. Pre-patch nightmares had better resists than the current versions. If you post the stats, we can help you determine whether or not it is rare.

Thanks. I have not reactivated the account with my gm tamer yet. One of the nightmares I did find on another account (and sorry I don't have a screen shot program yet)

Hits 315 - Stam 97 - Mana 124 - Str 515 - Dex 97 - Int 124 - Barding 87.6
Physical 40% - Fire 38% - Cold 36% - Poison 38% - Energy 30%
Physical 40 - Fire 40 - Energy 20 - Base 16 to 22
Wrestle 87.2 - Tact 98.8 - Resist 93.8 - Anat 34.9 - Magery 17.8 - Med 1.0

This particular tamer was still being worked up. The nightmare is not bonded to this character. This account also has a dragon (red) but unless there has been changes to the original dragons I will refrain from posting the stats as I am sure that on the GM tamer there are dragons and others that had more training/hunting.

That mare doesn't appear to be pre-patch. It is "ok", low in physical resist (65 max) which is a deal breaker for me. It has max hp's, 10 off max strength, and the rest of the resists aren't bad at all. As far as your dragons, they will be pretty much "ho hum" in this day and age, as the greater dragon has taken over. It is a 5 slot pet that is much more powerful than it's predecessor. I keep a "classic" dragon in my stables, but not a lot of folks do.

I'm afraid that's not a pre-patch. Resists are ok, but not pre-patch levels. Hits are max, but strength is low (max str is 525). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(

Thanks for the replies guys.

What stats on a nightmare would indicate that it's prepatch so when I activate my other tamer account I know what to look for. Also nice to know about the dragons. Does that go for the old white wyrms also?

What about the ostards from the original T2A release? I beleive one of the ones I had was one of the darker (not really black) frenzied from just after T2A came out. Are they even worth looking into? So much has changed, I read stuff on the boards and it's like trying to read directions that come from Ikea

And none of the news is bad. I'm just trying to get caught up before I get rid of things that maybe I should not.

Currently, have a maximum of 65/40/40/40/30. As you can see, only physical resist is above 60. If you see a mare with its other resists above 60, that's a pre-patch.

I think that some of the older frenzied ostards ate both meat and fruit, whereas now they only eat meat. You might see if yours eats fruit.

Hey man, I just reactivated after 10 years. I've been playing around 3 months now and I'm really enjoying it. The game has changed but to me it has mostly been for the better. What has stunned me though is how UO has turned from a game of skills into a game of items. But on the other hand it encourages customization of playstyle. Welcome back

Thanks again for all the information. Now I have a better idea of what I need to look for not only with my stables but on the threads here.

And yes, I had left mostly when it became more about items rather than skill.. but there is so much new content even after just 4 years its worth another shot.

Activated my other account....

What is the difference between a kirin that eats just meat and one that eats meat and veggies?
