For a new player, Ulitma is a very entertaining game and addictive. Although there is room for improvement as with most games I will say that you will spend too much time developing characters and that it grows old. Just play the game and enjoy.

I've been playing UO off and on for 11 yrs and still enjoy it. Admittedly, it can take a while to learn how to play if you don't get help from people.

I have more fun in UO than any other mmo i've played. I've played WoW, SWG and EQ. Ironically, those 3 games were basically the same game. They are just addiction engines.

UO is a persistant world. It's not just a game, it's a world.

UO is thee game, all others cover their lackluster with eye candy.
UO had depth, meaning, there is so much one can do. A vast field of professions, skills and talents.

Here on stratics, they offer many, many templates for warriors, archers, tamers, mages, necro's,,,,the list goes on.

Character development is indeed a process, but, one that the mature player understands as it entails value. Took me eons to have a good tamer....no cheats, no rings, no advance character tokens ( for the lazy at heart)

You can always gimp out and buy gold, and be a mega rich super duper uber goober, or, like alot, make the gold yourself.

Don't let Luna prices keep you from playing.....those prices are set for the ones who actually buy gold..(lol)

UO is the grand daddy of all the online games....no, we don't have OMG!!!! graphics, but, the content speaks for itself, and yes, it is very, very addictive.

Hard questions to answer. You will get tons of different responses because of the many aspects of the game.

I have played since the beta phase of the game (11 years), and I still find enjoyment in it.

As far as easy, medium, or challenging. Some parts of the game could be considered easy, some medium, and some challenging. It all depends in your game play style, and areas that you wish to travel to.

It's very difficult to answer your questions the way you probably want them answered.

I would suggest getting a trial account and testing it out.

It's a good game, it has all variety of difficulty available and a good variety of it which gets rid of the tiresome grind sessions some games have, because you can choose many different things and ways to advance your skills. Graphics aren't up to par with the new games...come to think of it it's not up to par with a lot of older games but the content outstrips every other MMO on the market. One upside if you use the 2D client or even the KR client on most newer PC's if your vid card fails it you don't have sever issues with Lag and frame rate loss till you replace it..Just plug your monitor into your on board video and continue business as usual. The Community here can be rough at times but once you find the right people it's great, and the freedom of how you develop your character shines brightly in comparison to the ridged, linear templates that are available on other MMO's. Want a Spellcaster that can double as a Warrior..it's possible. Want to command Pets in battle and be a Mage sure! You can find a way to make a wide variety of characters. But Make sure you read a bit, because some skills compliment each other so well that it's folly not to have them both, meaning if you pick one your best to pick the other like healing and anatomy or Magery and Evaluating Intelligence.

Yeah, UO is a HUGE game...

It doesn't take long to build a viable character. Most skills go up pretty fast. It takes a very long time to figure out how to play skills off each other to build an uber powerful template.

I think most people don't even play half of the game...
