On a production shard I have been stealing from a packy for the last 2 hours and have only gone up from 50 to 53.9 in the last two and a half hours. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong? I'm using the chart off of UOGuide.com..

* 30 - 40: 3 stones
* 40 - 50: 4 stones
* 50 - 60: 5 stones
* 60 - 70: 6 stones
* 70 - 80: 7 stones
* 80 - 90: 8 stones
* 90 - 100: 9 stones
* 100 - 110: 10 stones
* 110 - 120: 11 stones
Am I doing something wrong?

no, its just a really gay skill to raise. Try changing to 4 stones for a bit and then 6 for a bit see if you get better results (make sure you leave it long enough to see, dont do it like 5 times then give up cos you didnt gain)

What he said...

Keep in mind that the biggest drag on training stealing is the fact that you can't just keep pegging away at it like a melee or crafting skill. You have that annoying timer that spaces out your attempts.

I read somewhere that the more NPC's you have around the better your chances are at gaining......is that true? Also would it be faster if I trained with Jewelry on?

The npc thing is false, people have been sayng that for as long as i remember but no ones ever proven it!

Don't know about jewelry (if it uses your modified skill for a success check and your real skill to determine your skill gains then it might), try testing it out and let everyone know if it makes a difference

Arent Higher level skills harder to train then low levels?

I know I can EASILY train several skills from 0-20 before I can train one from 115 to 120

Yes normally in most skills it flies to 60, slows down a hair but nicely proceeds into the mid 80's. Slows down again but nothing too bad then you kind of hit a slow wall around 93. Anything after that it kinda gets slower and slower by the whole point.

I'm just saying that I went from 50-56 in stealing the other night in 4 hours, that is ridiculously slow at that low of a skill.

OK last night was a fluke.....tonight I've gained 2.1 in less than twenty minutes.

I always felt the more noticed you were, the better gains.

But it falls into that category of UO Myths, right next to eating food helps with success rates of skills, fishing serpent hot spots, and gloves.

Edit: Except those last 3 myths mentioned were actually proven false. :p

Ah i was just gonna ask about gains. I guess the old packy thing still works, my thief is only 77.4 now and i gotta work em up to 120.

Ive been training my theif the past 3-4 days. went from 50 to 89 in that time. What i done was change weight half way through.

For instance. I Trained with 6 stones from 55-65, 65.1-75 with 7 stones. I found it is working quite well
