I can't believe I'm sitting here right now, wishing I was a cheater.

I"m actually sitting here wishing I was in the know when it comes to things like whatever this Peacemaking bug/exploit is. How sad is that? I've paged on numerous scripters/macroers and now I"m wishing I was one. Maybe it's because I play solo, and I"m tired of being too broke to afford Luna prices. For some reason, I would love to be able to cheat my way to fame and fortune, but apparently I just don't frequent the right websights, or run with the right crowd. If only I could get EA/Mythic to reward me with in-game gold for my honesty. Everyone around me is rich in game, and I've done a great job of keeping my jealousy in check, but damn it's getting harder and harder. I think I need UO Therapy or something...

I"m sitting at Moonglow right now, and I"m staring at a guy that I know for a fact cheats. In fact his whole family does, and it infuriates me. Would I really stop hating him so much if I was just like him? Or would I still resent him even if I was basking in the same glory?

Well, even on these boards, cheaters are worshipped. I won't risk thread lockage, but a topic came up today, and I doubt very seriously if I'm the only one thinking major cheating had to come into play for success. I'll leave it at that..

I will answer that query, with this bit of wisdom:

Vice is a monster
Of such Awful mien,

That to be hated,
It just needs to be seen.

Yet seen too oft,
Familiar with it's face,

At firt abhorred,
Then endured,

And at last, embraced

[/ QUOTE ]

You never have to cheat, to win.

Not ever.

You can cheat, and win...but then...what have you won?

Kelmo gives sound and sage advice indeed.

*Nods*

I can teach you how to run vendors very successfully...and make lots of gold legitimately.

Many can...and many make lots more than I do, and they don't cheat, either.

It is the easy way out...it is the Fool's game.

Don't do it, man.

You will always regret it, and wonder if today is the day you get caught, and banned.

And likely, if you cheat...chances are it will happen to you, not the cheater you "Envy".

Chances are...

*nods* No cheat is a win. If you stack the deck. Peek at the cards. Steal from the bank... You did not win. Success at any cost? No. Cheaters do not succeed. They just cheat.

I just don't know anymore. I"ve been playing since Dec 97, if I was a jealous/greedy type, I think it would have manifested itself a long time ago. I honestly think the current state of the game is making me feel this way.

And I honestly don't think I need to "take a break" from the game. This game is to me what it's always been, entertaining. I don't get to play as much as I used to, but I"m still highly entertained when I do play. I don't know, it's gotta just be jealously of my fellow players. When I see players post about paying 300 mil for this, and 500 mil for that....

Cheating to accomplish something makes that accomplishment irrelevant.

Don't do it... those people using that timer sploit to peace lock the entire screen are all newbs. They are so bad at UO that in some situations they even die while peace locking a screen (yes, I've seen it happen MANY times)

pathetic...

people who cheat just continue to get worse and worse at the game until they're incapable of playing the game without cheating.

There are assorted forms of rich. Granted some cheat to win at all costs and they are gp and homes and items rich. They may be *worshipped* or *distained* and *hated* by others, as well, not like the cheater gives a flying flip what others opinions are of them.

Real question of whom is richer is also a point of view. I would consider them utterly poor/poverty stricken even, compared to me. For I prefer to be rich in HONOR and HONESTY, trusted rich in friends or trusts never broken, rich in honesty and honor, rich in self respect, rich in being able to look into the mirror of self reflection and not despising whom I see my self as... if you do not cheat you may be far richer than you are really seeing yourself to be.
Some richs are not *tradeable* for pixel or rl worldly crack those are hallow and empty, and gathering more and more of those items never equates with a happiness that one may have .......utterly without. *cheaters never can fathom true honest.. trustworthy dependant not upon THINGS to equate with ...human life richness*

To each his or her own, cheating is also *living a lie* what they have or have gotten via cheating, will never fill the hollow empty, poorness, in their spirits nor their hearts. What they see/label as 'a loser'............is a winner, and what we see as loser..is THEM !

It's a pickle no doubt about it. The best advice I could give you is to do your best and ignore them while also setting goals for yourself. Gives you quite a satisfying feeling when you accomplish your goals through effort rather than taking the easy way out. Just look at that guy's thread about having a soulstone for every skill. If he had cheated and macroed those skills, that accomplishment would taste like ashes in his mouth.

I play on the most cutthroat shard there is. Do folks cheat there? Yes, they do. Some will try any short cut. Why? To "win" I suppose. The cheaters may get the kill on me. They may get to loot my stuff. They may have mad healing skills and loot at light speed. But it is not real.

They may sit in one spot and work (insert quest here). They may mine, chop, BOD, or what ever while away. They may reap many rewards. They did not earn them.

Yet they prosper and gloat. I know. It sticks in my craw too. All I have is my integrity. I will hold on to that.

ON a shard like yours, where Community is so strong, integrity means something. I have integrity in real life of course, but as a solo player, maintaining integrity is something I don't really worry about. No one really knows me, cheating can't change the opinion of those that don't really have one. I"m on meds for back pain at the moment, so I"m not sure if I'm even making sense .

NO NO NO !!!!!
Don't swoop to that level no one actually wins in UO, especially the cheaters. Cheaters think they win, but they are kidding themselves. Sure they have stuff you wish you could have, and sure you could start cheating like they do, and spend over a year building your stuff up, and be as rich as them, but keep in mind it only takes someone like Draconi to sweep it away in less than 2 seconds flat, and all that stuff you cheated to get for over a year is all gone then where would you be? So hun stop thinking of cheating, and just do the best you can do, and enjoy it, because there is no winning in UO if there was you would win see game over, and the credits at the end.

Just because someone pays 500M or even far more than that does not make them cheaters. And also, just because you don't have any money in the bank does not make you a honest player either.

I have never felt like cheating when I had 500k in my bank or 5 billion. Chao.

In your dreams bud.....sorry the few you know, give the rest of us a bad name.

As for the context of this post.....I know how you feel. I play solo these days. My guild died off, and I EARN everything I have. I do not cheat, buy gold, or script....my morals are old fashioned, saddly, todays kids have no clue, nor do they care.

It's their up bringing. Mom, dad, peers and society......from tv upto the white house, it's rampant and a social disease.

I hardly play as much as I used to, but 6 years is a good while to be on almost daily, if only to get a few bods on some days. And I am glad I am not a bottom feeder, I can live with that.

Your story reminds me of that scripter in cove/fel. the gm's or devs won't do a thing about.

hang in there.

if you actually talked to the person and had a conversation with them, you might be able to look past the fact that they think of the game differently than you do, and make a friend. Not a guarantee, but seeing a character doing something in a video game is hardly worth hating someone over.

feel free to resent EA for blatantly ignoring the obvious for year after year after year, though.

Seriously everything I got I obtained without cheating and I am damned proud of that whats more I had to recover from being hacked which I did and within a month my account was way better than before getting hacked.

So you CAN become rich and get ahead without cheating and when you do that you can be proud of what you have accomplished and take solace knowing that those who cheat are not enjoying the game the same way you and I are.

On that note why pay for a game you are not going to enjoy playing? Cheating the game is really just cheating yourself when you step back and look at it.

I assume that they enjoy it, or else why would they be paying/playing it? It's like when people tell me that dueling is pointless and means nothing and I'm stupid for doing it since it isn't "real pvp", but here's a newsflash, I enjoy doing it. I'm not going to question someones motives if I don't even know the person, not everyone has the same morals or standards as everyone else.

Jealousy does not provide results, you want to earn gold, buy low, sell high. Another word for you bods, bods, bods...one word, three times. I at first sold horses, everyone needed one to survive if travelling out of town during the dark days. I also provided guilds with wood and regs once i could gate, they payed big not to do this themselves. Once bods came out I linked up with several people and cross sharded and made 2 billion when they first started out. The gold is there if you want it, you just have to take the steps and play smart. Cheating is not necessary as gold is easy to obtain. I doubt some peace making cheat will make you as rich as you desire to be nowadays. You just have to put forth the effort and take advantage of oppurtunities afforded to you.

You would have to kill 2 million swoops or like monsters to get 5 billion in gold or of course just whip out the Visa card...

Buying gold or any item with assets not obtained through normal game play is cheating.

The thing here is.. what do you want out of this game?

Take a step back and ask yourself serious valid questions. Realise that sometimes you need to ask yourself a lot of questions to be more aware of who and what you are.

Do you have a goal? Or did someone else set the goal for you? (IE: Someone walks over with a shiny item and you want it.)

Is your goal realistic with your available playtime? What do you consider cheating. Would you cheat to achieve your goals?

What do you consider fun when you play games?

Be true to yourself.

I've played this game for 8 years, I don't own anything I didn't get through legitimate means.

Do I have billions in gold? Nope
Do I need billions in gold? Nope.

I have everything I feel is necessary to play my chars the way I want to play them. Sure there's stuff I can't afford, but I don't really need them, so why worry about them?

Cheaters basically work for ea. They work & work & work. Then, one day they log on and their house is on fire, and all their stuff is gone. It sort of like when 5 people attack a person and kill them then spend all day telling each other how great they are. You know inside if you're a cheater that you haven't really made anything, no matter how much you say on the outside how great you are.

Let me just clarify something right now. I am not questioning someone elses motives without knowing first hand what it is like to cheat. Ever play diablo 2 on open battlenet where cheating is allowed and necessary to be on the same level as other people? I have and it ruined the game for me and many others. I was a professional cheater on d2 and the game was no longer fun after about 3 weeks. Who did I really cheat? the game or myself?

UO and D2 are totally different things however. D2 is more of an offline game with the ability to play multiplayer online with random people UO is just online no option fro offline play and your world consists of more than yourself and 7 random people. Well if used to anymore I feel like there are only 8 total players online...

But the point is I know damned well that when you cheat at any game the game becomes boring fast. Sure you have all kinds of fun at first but that wears off pretty quick.

you know damned well that it gets boring for YOU fast, but I don't see how you can speak for millions of other people. Some cheat so they can pvp quicker, some cheat so they can get the items to enjoy their gameplay, some cheat because they like beating the system, and some cheat for blah blah blah. Who really knows? All I know is if people are cheating, and they are still enjoying themselves, then they probably aren't really cheating themselves. In your diablo 2 example, there are still tens of thousands of people who play, and I know that some people have cheated for years in it, yet they still enjoy it. You got bored after 3 weeks, some people are still going strong after years.

The way you speak I can only assume you are a cheater who enjoys it?

If not then how can you speak for anyone else?

Even if people continue to play a game they cheat in are they really enjoying the game the way you say they are?

I think you confuse people who cheat and enjoy causing problems in a game with people who actually play games to play them. Those who began playing to play and then cheated lost out those who only intend to destroy a game BY cheating are going to continue and enjoy destroying the game not enjoy cheating at the game because they want to play it with cheats.
