Not EA's problem, most likely.
There are some Firewall softwares that are downright stupid, that see the client patchers for both KR and the 2D versions (which have the same name, despite being different programs in different locations) as being one of them legit, the other an "imposter", and will block one or the other (depending on the last one allowed through to the net). Check your list of allowed and blocked programs.
My previous security software was like that (and wouldn't let me make separate rules for them), and I was overjoyed when my ISP changed their supplier for their free software to a different company.
