How to survive the caster madness?

Recently I decided to try some champ spawns, just because I never really did them. Since I also like Terathan Keep, I decided to try the arachnid spawn there with my sampire in training.

The first two levels weren't really a problem. Half a decent gear + Whirlwind = lots of dead Spiders, Scorpions, Terathan Drones & Warriors. Well, as the spawn advanced to level 3, I find myself surrounded by dread spiders & Terathan Matriarchs. Within the blink of an eye the nuked me into oblivion.

So, what's a working strategy, not just for this spawn, but for every spawn with lots of casters?

Run to the edges when the candles hit 4 white, prior to the advancement to wave 3.

Then fight the spawn from the fringes back to the altar, and repeat the retreat at 1 skull prior to level 4 spawn.

The idea is not to get your retreat cut off when the new spawn comes in - ESPECIALLY in Fel ruleset shards where you can't move through the critters.

Thanks, that works. Unfortunately it's a bit boring.

Wave 1 & 2 are cool. You can jump right into the fray. I had hoped that there would be some smiliar action for caster-heavy waves. But I can't even run up to the mob, because I'll aggro a whole bunch more this way. So I just pull one or two away from the crowd.

As this is wave 3, you don't have to kill that much mobs. But I can't imagine, how this will work with caster-heavy spawns in wave 1, since you don't have all day to kill the monsters, because the spawn will regress, if you're not in time.
