How to manage a pumpkin patch

With so many fields out there being horribly mismanaged, I thought I'd post the best ways to manage a pumpkin patch to maximize the opportunities to spawn a jack o' lantern.

Stop clearing off the fields and piling the pumpkins off to the side. This actually keeps the spawn rate LOW since the previously spawned pumpkins need to first decay. To get your field to spawn new pumpkins faster, and thus increase the chances of a jack o' lantern spawning, the pumpkins need to be DELETED.

The easiest way to accomplish this is to kill animals and stuff their corpses full of unwanted squash. Mmmm! Pumpkin stuffed venison anyone? Repeat this process until your field is clear and then wait for the corpse to decay. Soon your field will begin to spawn new pumpkins, yay!

Necromancers are an ideal character type to work the fields as well. Their horde minions will gather up the squash and then vanish once released. More orange goodness will soon be on its way.

I was going through my book of pumpkin spots on my paladin, and when I got to the SW Moonglow spot (forget whether it was Tram or Fel), I found that someone had stuffed it full of about 100+ ki-rins and cu sidhes, so much that the ground wasn't showing (that it was ki-rins at least indicates it was a male character doing it).

If my Necro had been the one, there were so many ki-rins that I doubt he'd have time to have recalled out before dying under an onslaught of spells.

Out of curiosity, since I am not familiar with playing a Necromancer, how does one get Horde Minions to "gather up" the pumpkins ? They eat them ? What would be the proper command to tell the minions to go into "pumpkins gathering" mode ?

They pick them up without you having to tell them to. They pick up anything on the gound. When their backpack get full, just dismiss them like you would release a pet and summon another one.

Glad when I SG there, I was on my pally as well. At least I think it is same place. The pen is full. Someone obviously took a long time to lure the critters there for a most foul halloween trick.

A few years ago, I also found that if your cook took a whole bunch of uncooked dough (in a pack horse or blue beetle) and a bunch of skillets or other cooking tools, you could pick up pumpkins, put some dough in your backpack, and make unbaked pumpkin pies to get rid of the pumpkins. I don't think leaving piles of unbaked pumpkin pies outside the fields will have any effect on the spawning of pumpkins. It was a great way to get rid of pumpkins and the huge pile of unused dough my cook created during training.

Do pumpkins this year have individual character names on them?

Last year, by logging in your various characters, and keeping them on line for a little while, pumpkins with their names would soon spawn somewhere. The longer a character stayed on line the more pumpkins in their names spawned.You could always tell who was on line. Also those on line for long times macroing produced an abundance of pumpkins with their name. I wonder if they changed any of that this year. Also I think if your character jumped around the shard, to different locations, more pumpkins spawned in that character's name. Not sure about that worked better than just logging in for a long time and being in one spot.

and if you're killing stuff to put them in, they will Initially hold less than their full capacity. after a couple more mins, they will hold more (max stones)

I just carry bags with me and fill the bags with pumpkins then recall to a trash can and dump them and recall back to field and they start spawning right away and you dont have to wait for decay ... just saying

I agree. I also found pumpkin fields near server lines that you can cross and dump pumpkins. Crossing Server Lines to dump pumpkins works to have your field spawn more pumpkins quickly. You need only cross any server line, dump the bags full of pumpkins you've collected, and then return to the fields, being careful not to dump your pumpkins near another pumpkin field that someone else is clearing << Not completely sure about that but worth being cautious about

Goat deal still works for dumping pumpkins. Faster than recalling and putting in trash can. Just bag the pumpkins and feed to a goat

Unable to be worn. Facing does not matter as they can be turned with an interior decorator when locked down. They come with "Hand Painted by {random Dev or EM name here}.

I have heard some folks saying something about them being animated but I have not seen any animations on them at all. I think they were talking about the animations the Evil Pumpkins have while you are fighting them. *shrugs*

A goat could definitely work, but you'd need to carry an arsenal of bags with you as well to feed the goat. Horde Minion is by far the best option, whereas server lines and trash cans (Delucia, for example), are other options. I think Great Lakes has a trash can by Del bank.

Well, a necro mage is pretty cool to have for PvP or PvM. Or for pumpkins ;P.
