IMHO, these are in order of importance, the way Siege can be helped:
1. You gotta figure out how to get people to stay. I already posted in my other thread how whenever a person joins this shard, they only have about a 3% chance of staying as a productive member of the shard. The people are coming, they're just not staying. So you've really got to focus in on how to get them to stay. One thought that came about in another post was sort of a mentorship program. Perhaps if someone joins this shard as an aspiring theif/pvper/dragon hunter/crafter/whatever if someone in the Siege community took them under thier wings as sort of a mentor, this might work.
2. You need an one time big influx of people. People don't play siege because, people don't play siege. It's a self serving problem. Right now if there are 150-200 active players, people roam around see no one and say screw this. People typically play to play with other people. You need to agree on something that brings a lot of people here in a quick period of time. If you could bump the number of active people to 400-500, I think more people would join and stick around. The only ways to do this I think are allowing character transfers (permanent or temporarily) or an additional house on Siege. I personally hate the idea of character transfers or the additional house, but I'd rather them than a dead shard. Any one of these two changes would probably bring about a few hundred people to the shard.
3. You need to do away with the pvp rich imbalance. I've bitched about this before but consider this. PVP on Siege is darwinian, only the strong survive. And as such, only the elite pvp'ers are left. I consider myself a good pvper, but not elite such as those in SP!. If I were to go up against an elite pvp'er, I'd give myself a 30-40% chance to win. Back when pvp was always active in Wispwood, I'd fight a constant 2-3 hours a day, probably die 3-4 times a day. So, over about a period of 3 days, 6-9 hours of good pvp, I'd die 10 times, kill someone about 7 times. Assuming we both looted each other, I'd need to replace 3 suits.
It's already been mentioned, in factions one would need to farm about 2-3 hours for each suit, longer if not in factions. So in order to pvp for a good 6-9 hours, I'd need to pvm just to earn the gear for 6-9 hours as well? And probably a lot shorter now, with dismount I'd doubt I'd last 5 minutes in a pvp engagement. I'm sorry, I don't want to spend 8 hours farming monsters so I can go out there and maybe pvp for 8 hours. For the rich, or the unscrupulous, this is easy. And yes, you know who you are, those who afk farm, script mine, hack, or exploit bugs to copy yourself the perfect archery weapon. You can script mine while you sleep and pvp during the day. While those of us who want to play an honest game have to work at it.
Seriously think about it. I can farm for maybe 100 hours on Atlantic, and have the perfect pvp suit forever. Or I can farm 6-9 hours every three days just to pvp. Why the hell would someone put in this time investment?
You've either got to get rid of the good stuff (faction arties/cursed arties), or make it very very easy to get the good stuff. If you don't believe me, how many casual pvp'ers still exist? None. How many 'elite' pvp'ers still exist?
4. You need to stop pancakes on these forums. It really does drive people away.
I really hope those of you left on these Siege forums can pull together to do what is good for the shard.
