How to help Siege

IMHO, these are in order of importance, the way Siege can be helped:

1. You gotta figure out how to get people to stay. I already posted in my other thread how whenever a person joins this shard, they only have about a 3% chance of staying as a productive member of the shard. The people are coming, they're just not staying. So you've really got to focus in on how to get them to stay. One thought that came about in another post was sort of a mentorship program. Perhaps if someone joins this shard as an aspiring theif/pvper/dragon hunter/crafter/whatever if someone in the Siege community took them under thier wings as sort of a mentor, this might work.

2. You need an one time big influx of people. People don't play siege because, people don't play siege. It's a self serving problem. Right now if there are 150-200 active players, people roam around see no one and say screw this. People typically play to play with other people. You need to agree on something that brings a lot of people here in a quick period of time. If you could bump the number of active people to 400-500, I think more people would join and stick around. The only ways to do this I think are allowing character transfers (permanent or temporarily) or an additional house on Siege. I personally hate the idea of character transfers or the additional house, but I'd rather them than a dead shard. Any one of these two changes would probably bring about a few hundred people to the shard.

3. You need to do away with the pvp rich imbalance. I've bitched about this before but consider this. PVP on Siege is darwinian, only the strong survive. And as such, only the elite pvp'ers are left. I consider myself a good pvper, but not elite such as those in SP!. If I were to go up against an elite pvp'er, I'd give myself a 30-40% chance to win. Back when pvp was always active in Wispwood, I'd fight a constant 2-3 hours a day, probably die 3-4 times a day. So, over about a period of 3 days, 6-9 hours of good pvp, I'd die 10 times, kill someone about 7 times. Assuming we both looted each other, I'd need to replace 3 suits.

It's already been mentioned, in factions one would need to farm about 2-3 hours for each suit, longer if not in factions. So in order to pvp for a good 6-9 hours, I'd need to pvm just to earn the gear for 6-9 hours as well? And probably a lot shorter now, with dismount I'd doubt I'd last 5 minutes in a pvp engagement. I'm sorry, I don't want to spend 8 hours farming monsters so I can go out there and maybe pvp for 8 hours. For the rich, or the unscrupulous, this is easy. And yes, you know who you are, those who afk farm, script mine, hack, or exploit bugs to copy yourself the perfect archery weapon. You can script mine while you sleep and pvp during the day. While those of us who want to play an honest game have to work at it.

Seriously think about it. I can farm for maybe 100 hours on Atlantic, and have the perfect pvp suit forever. Or I can farm 6-9 hours every three days just to pvp. Why the hell would someone put in this time investment?

You've either got to get rid of the good stuff (faction arties/cursed arties), or make it very very easy to get the good stuff. If you don't believe me, how many casual pvp'ers still exist? None. How many 'elite' pvp'ers still exist?

4. You need to stop pancakes on these forums. It really does drive people away.

I really hope those of you left on these Siege forums can pull together to do what is good for the shard.

Agreed, but we seriously need to make a push for some of the things Bruin mentioned and see if we can get some action from the dev team. They need to know how desperate things are here and we need them to implement some changes quickly.

You can blame goodguy's pancakes for faction items taking that long to get...

Yeah I think that making everything easier to get, from faction arties, to marties etc... would be a good idea. I don't think people should have to farm for days, or spends hundreds of thousands upon each death.

Now with imbuing, faction arties are not really necessary - they help, but are not key. Previous to imbuing, a few people had the resources for these uber arties and thus were able to dominate the pvp field.

Personally, I like the faction arties, but perhaps just removing the attachment to a particular player or faction would help - rather than the extreme case of just deleting them all.

Some dude playing UO

Hi there,

I played on Siege for about 2 years. Was pretty much a noob when i started and loved the shards special rules. Specialy the interactions with other players, that where unavoidable, unlike Trammel where people just ignore one another.

Man the community of Siege! The player-run towns, simply wonderfull.

If I left, its mainly about the farming issues. I am not good at pvp, at some point I just was unable to get the stuff i needed to just be able to play, as reds would kill and dry loot anyone weaker. When the super drags where introduced, i left shard and never came back.

Players come to Siege for different reasons, I was about roleplay and community, but ultimately, it all come down to this...

If you are no hardcore pvper AND you dont like to farm (like me) you wont stay on Siege.

As for UO dying... I think we really need to consolidate, merge shards communities, way too much land in all of commercial UO for the small number of remaining players still active. Maybe close a shard or two...

Bruin, Im with you on this,I said in another post that we need a think tank. You are on the right track. So let us all give just a lil bit of your mind(and I dont mean blame and finger pointing) Here what i think that would help....Drop the ROT cap.and As much as I hate to say it id be willing to try any thing at all.(even char. transfer):(

Considering getting rid of the good stuff is out of the question, is it out of the question to get everyone to support making monster dropped loot (non-faction) plentiful and faction stuff back to original prices.

?

I think it's impossible... I brought this up 3 almost 4 years ago. If you think you can do it... by all means.

I am all for Siege, and want to see our population grow but I will continute to say no to X shard.

The only reason I came to Siege was to leave a UO that was ruined by Duping.

Bruin you make mention a an exploit to make archery weapons? As do most here on Siege and I look at what most peole are wearing and do not remember seeing two people with the same weapon? Please elaborate.

I think the second house is a good idea, think about it, the lands are empty. Point of fact, a small house dropped 1 screen south of the Yew Gate and the spot is still empty, one screen from the House Sir Dan wanted 16 Million for.

I think over the last 6 months we have looted well over 100 IDOCS including 6 Castles!

Regarding skill gain, a boost would be nice but lets not make it too easy...

The fix for faction items is easy, put the silver back to where it was for the first week or take off the name brand. (both would work too!)

Like I said in a different thread its the chicken ot the egg.

Did you leave because Siege is dead or is Siege dead because you left?

Seacrest out!

Well said Bruin. I think a second house on Seige would help to bring more people over. Maybe for a 2 month period of time allow character transfers to Siege. No gold but bring their characters with Soulstones. Remember, we are trying to bring people over here. This is to our advantage that they can come and start playing and joining in the PvP. Why would they want to come and spend months trying to work up skills when they are already established somewhere else. Also, with imbuing, why the need for faction arties at all. That would place everyone on an equal playing field, like old schhool everything would be crafter made or monster looted and would stop so much drama. Maybe this would give us our much needed influx of people and make it fun again.
