How much do you make?

Hi all,

Since I've recently learned about the whole Virtue Artifact drop thing in Anti-Virtue Dungeons, I've been spending hours upon hours of time in Deciete. Its not exciting here, killing Ettin's over and over again, but whatever, its midly entertaining.

I have noticed its a good source of cash, at least it is for my standards. An average Ettin gives about 200gp, and with a free flame strike and ebolt, I can take one out in a couple of seconds.

Without much work, I can make about 1500 in 3 minutes. With a lot of work (running from spawn to spawn, meditating, blah blah blah) I can get about 5k in 3 minutes.

Plus there are the Virtue items that drop.

So i'm just wondering.... What do you make on average per hour when actually "playing"? Is 20-30k an hour average (or below or high)? I figured its not bad considering it doesn't cost me anything (i have 100% lrc) and its fairly easy killings (not a big risk in dying), plus the virtue items are pretty cool.

just asking....

depends,

as you get better, and learn your character better, you will make more money.

at times, if I just focused on gold, I can make ~100k an hour. depending on where I am at , is there anyone else there too, etc.

But usually I just focus on having fun. I think many people overlook things like gems on creatures, most people never take them. At times I will take them and when I am full of gold, recall, bank gold then go sell gems. Other times I make a minigame out of gathering gems, everytime I fill up on gold, I bank it, then return home drop off all my gems, risnse, repeat. At times I do this for a week at a time. At the end of the week I take my gems to town to sell.

I do not have very much gold, I never have in all my years of playing. right now I have about 3 million between my 6 characters. I give some away to new players, I will buy resources I need for my crafters, will buy the occassional armor piece. But unlike many players, I am here for fun. UO is an release for me from real life. I am just not that worried about gold.

Thanks again Warsong for the quick reply.

I know exactly what you mean. I loot EVERYTHING from gems to armor (why sit there and mine for ignots when you've got monsters dropping plate that can be smelted down).

I've been playing off and on for the last 10 years, I'm just not very good. ha. I've got a sense of humor about it, but would really like to be better. I've noticed UO really has made a big change over the years, making it more of a "team sport" type game compared to the earlier years where it was one person could hold their own without issues. Now-a-days you need to be a bard with a bonded host to protect/attack, or be in a guild w/ numbers to do some mid-level events.

100k / hr is pretty impressive!
i figure the people who buy multi-million legs must be in the same boat. ha.

I made 2500 ingots the other night from having my T-hunter open about 60 Dark Wisp chests for a friend, and got to keep all the metal to salvage (gotta love that extra ingot per item from the salvage bag). At Luna NPC prices, that's 75-120k gold worth of ingots from an hour's work, using up lockpicks that I made to train a tinker.

are you not very good because you play very casually or do you get bored quickly with one character, so you have 6 different types of warriors/mages/tamers, etc so no one is really trained up?

I still mostly solo here, looking for a guild, but I am not in a hurry to find one?

what shard you on?

good travels.

Hi WarSong,

I've never been "good" at UO. i've got multiple charaters, 2 accouts actually, all of my 8 characters have 100+ GMs raning from cooking, fishing, and tailoring to magery, med, fencing, healing etc...

i'm just not good. ha.

i come and go as a player; i really like the idea of UO, and have for the last 10 years. i just loose the edge of the key components of the day to day that one needs as i don't play all the time.
thats it.

if you can make 100k in an hour farming thats where u want to be. try hunting in lish, titans/cyclops east of the honesty gate or wisps in the wisp dungeon. a good swordsman can tear thru these, plus paragons drop marties and chests.

my guildmate made 180k in an hour killing shawdow wisps, which is about the highest i've heard.

Maybe it's an ignorant question, but at 100k an hour, how are people selling millions, on demand, any shard, for $2/million? Sounds like there's still a TON of duping going on, or I'm missing something huge.

no you not missing anything,

there is still duping going on. I usually make less than 100k an hour that I initially answered. Why? Because usually I am just having fun in game, I will stop talk to people, just wander about, go shopping, etc.

If I actually focus on just grabbing gold, I can hit that number. But to me, it just gets boring really fast. I like adventuring, hanging out.

Also remember a good many people make their millions by selling power/stat scrolls, rares, artifacts, etc on vendors.

Personally I never got into the vendor thing, I have one, but I just sell metal chests, paintings, pillows, treasure maps. Not looking to make billions, just looking to have fun.

I never worry about gold looting. You could loot gold for days and maybe rack up a couple hundred k gold, but if you hit one right loot item like an assassins armor piece you are suddenly worth several mil gold. This game is unfortunately now all about the items. Don't get me wrong I still love this game, I'm just pointing out that if you're worried about getting wealthy, looting gold is the last approach you should probably take. Run Doom and Lady M over and over and sell the pieces.

The changes to the bag of sending sealed that one for me, i too never worry about the gold either. Lady M in small groups is awesome for making easy $$; ingreds, special drops and usually some really great loot. Agree though, any more, you can get to 25mil in 100k/hr chunks at a time....or find one great weapon or ring; I now opt for the latter.

Another way I used to make money was w/ my fisherman selling Pearls. I would average 3-5 pearls an hour. At the time they were selling for 50-60k a peice, the price on GL seems down to more in the 30k range now, but its a really profitable low-risk endeavor.

for an established player, sure trukx, that is the way to go. But there are problems even with this. You need to find a group of players that will accept you so you can get to lady mel, smoetimes this is a problem depending on the shard. Then there are times that I have gone with people just so they can experience it, I do not mind, but there are also some people that just need to get it done now, instead of enjoying the game. Who are very intolerant about taking new players into a peerless. But again it varies from shard to shard.

Fishing can get really boring, really fast for some people. I just wish the rate was a tad higher on the pearls though.

Also reread the first post here, the man is still ducking/running from ettins, its going to be sometime before he can handle going to any peerless.

If you want big, (relatively) risk free money then all I can say is: collect resources. If you don't mind being in Felucca for the double resources then you collect a lot quickly and if its an item thats particularly in demand, like ammo for archers, it will literally fly out of your hands. I just made 200k from an hours worth of hunting feathers and making arrows

Good point on his skill level War.

Risso followed up with probably a better version of what I was saying......you can make a KILLING in resources. Nobody likes to fish, for the longest time i was one of 4 or so vendors that regularly had pearls.......those pearls more or less allowed me to get equip for my warrior to get to where I am now. Yes, boring. But HIGHLY profitable. and you can get pearls from shore, so its risk free fishing as far as death. that and I finally got my fisher glasses last week.

Your post got me wondering, so last night I decided to go on a casual training hunt. I am in the process of training a fencher who's currently in the low 80's. For training I've been taking him to shame using an earth elemental slayer. In about 30 minutes last night between gems and cash I looted (that was all I looted, any armor and weapons I left behind), I pulled in just over 20k last night. This is on a fairly new char, and I wasn't really pushing to gather as much as I could have. On my main char (who's template is almost 100% finished) I can double that easily.

But in all honesty, when it comes to making money, I usually just leave that to my vendors. Since I've returned to UO I've had the largest bank balance ever. (Anywhere between 10-20 mil) Back before I took my 4 year break I only ever maintained a balance of a couple hundred thousand to a million.

[/ QUOTE ]Not to say that there isn't duping going on, but another large part of the gold making machine is champ spawns. My stealther can easily make 100k in under 20 min by picking up gold that drops from champ spawns without even thinking about taking the risk of actual combat.

There are a lot of legitimate ways to make a lot of gold. As a guild or even solo or as a duo you can farm champs or do some of the easier peerless, dunno if doom is worth it these days but you can still get nice arties worth a few mill. Non farming you can collect and turn in bods to try to get bkit or good quality smith bods. Camping idocs is one of the best ways to make money next to trading. When new events come out you can try to play the market, farming those and selling quick to cash in on the allure of new items being ingame.

There are also community collections, boring sure but you can make a bit of $$$ doing turn ins with resources or whatever. Higher level ingots and wood sell for more now that they are harder to get and that one scripter had all his houses burn down.

Personally I think the best way to make money is to find what you enjoy doing, then maximize your ability to do it well. If you hate farming monsters for example then don't do that, even if you think it might be more profitable than something you like doing, because no one can do anything they hate doing for very long.
