How loot works

Since I came back to the game 2 weeks ago i've gotten my feet wet on a lot of stuff that didn't even exist last time I played. Back then, a mob died and it dropped loot that everyone who had loot rights saw, and whoever grabbed the fastest got stuff. Now i've done some doom and gotten 2 items awarded and I understand the point system there.

My question is what about Peerless? I didn't until this week realize everyone got to see different loot when they opened the corpse.. how is this done? Does the mob drop a set amount of loot and each person with loot rights can see a different portion of it, or is the loot randomly generated per person who has loot rights?

Does anything effect what you get? I've been doing a lot of Melisande, Medusa, and Stygian Dragon in the last few days with large groups of people. Do I have the same chance of receiving a good item with 10 people as I do with 2? Do I have a greater chance if I do more damage or is anyone with loot rights given the same chance as anyone else regardless of damage?

Suppose I solo the peerless, and it takes me 45 minutes. Do I get more/better loot than if I did it with a group? This has to be true right otherwise why would sampire soloing be such a hot ticket if they could just do it with a group much faster.

Any help is appreciated for a confused newbie.

Loot for a peerless is sorta like loot on everything else.

1. A certain number of loot items is indicated for the kill.
2. regs, gold, bolts, arrows, etc. are divided evenly between the corpses, based on the number of people with looting rights.
3. The number of other standard items is divided evenly between the number of persons with looting rights. A number of ADDITIONAL items will be generated to make the division even (this occurs on lesser creatures as well). So, if there were 28 items that the creature would normally give, and there are 9 people with rights, an additional 8 items will be added so that each person will get 4 items from the standard loot (9x4=36). So, a corpse of something that was killed by many, unpartied, people will yield more items than one soloed or killed by a party, if left to combine for one person to loot (it's less obvious if everyone loots).
4. The Extra (mostly deco and peerless ML crafting ingredients) items are added after this point, and one of the people gets the Special item drop (for most peerless, this is a Mondain's Legacy or Stygian Abyss minor artifact).
5. Then, the chance for the replica drop is calculated, and that drop may or may not occur, depending in the RNG "rolls".

Thanks that helps a bit. So the idea of soloing is for when the artifact drops it always goes to you, since you are the only person there.

One thing you didn't touch on, does damage gone give you a higher chance of getting the special drop?
