How gain Honor when you're a Tamer/bard ?

Hi!

I have a Tamer/bard (peace) who is GM Mage but without eval int, medit or focus.Meaning unable to do any serious damage without a pet.

I would like to solo tame a Greater Dragon and after reading some posts (ok ok ! after dying quickly 2 or 3 times and then reading some posts rolleyes:) it seems that the only way would be to use Honor.

So i read the playguide found how to gain some and thought "but that's a warrior thing !".
So i tried with my paladin : easy ! With my mage : doable but very slow. But with my tamer it seems impossible :sad3:

As it seems that a lot of Tamers use it to tame, it should be possible, but how ? :please:
Or is it only for Tamers who have an attack skill ?

Thanks for your advices :)

You will need to be able to kill mobs somehow if you're going to gain honor. However, you could accomplish that with a pet other than a greater dragon - something easier to tame without honor.

But honestly? I'd say try and put together an all 70's resists suit and learn to lead tame without honor. Honor is very fashionable among tamers these days, but it's not actually a necessity. You don't need to go to the hassle of building up the virtue before you start finding pets - just don't go straight for a greater dragon as your first new pet - practice on easier beasts first :p

Cu sidhe don't cast so they're more straightforward. Bake kitsune are challenging to tame but you can usually tame them fairly quickly as they don't have a huge skill requirement. They're a great warmup for taming a greater ;) Greater hiryu are also straightforward to tame without honor.

Casters can obviously damage you from a distance so it's worth having good resist armour and a few orange petals for those. Then you can avoid any poison spells from blocking your heal casting, which makes it much simpler. Invis yourself if possible when you get an attempt started too. That breaks target for a few seconds and enables you to heal or cast invis again to minimise the hits the beast gets on you. It does take timing and practice, but you won't have to worry about your honor levels before you tame :D

Thanks for your answer Wenchkin !

But i should have precised that i have some good pets already and tamed them without honor (i didnt even know it was helpful before).
So i don't basically need a greater dragon i just would like to have one (greedy i know ;) )

And of course i could try to find a legendary bard to help me, but i found that i enjoy more my pets when i manage to tame them alone. And i like the challenge :)
It's just that without honor the only thing i managed to do is die very quickly and very often :blushing:

So of course if someone has a tip for how to tame a greater dragon without using honor with a char having :

102 hp
90 stam
93 mana

resist
Physical 70
Fire 66
Cold 46
poison 70
energy 65

stats
Lore 120
Taming 120 (with jewelery)
Vet 114
Music 108
peace 99
chiv 20
magery 94

I would be very grateful :)

In the meantime i saw another post about the same question and read that even using pets you can gain honor (i didn't know that). I tried and it works, it's slow but manageable. Specially if you can stand to let the mob hit you first :)

If you have a Cu go to the sphinx or the artic orge lords and just honor everyone you kill. Once you get into follower you can honor Succubus. You could just start with them too if you want. The amount of honor you get from each kill is based on the monsters fame or karma or both(can't remember exactly). Good luck to you :)

With greater dragons I find there are several things that really make it easier if you're not using honor.

Good resists on your armour, and in your case I'd try and get your hps up a bit too, perhaps chug a potion and have some hp increase items in your suit. That'll ensure you can survive a bit longer.

Orange petals made a huge difference to me, I found greaters really seemed to enjoy poisoning as I was trying to heal, so that was another aid.

I work with the greaters in the daemon temple on fire isle so that I can easily isolate the greater dragon that spawns outside. It's just a lot more controllable there. The jungle is quiet and has some open areas which make taming easier too. And healers if you fail lol.

I take the dragon out into a quiet spot in the jungle. I'll mark a rune near where I've moved the dragon and use pets to beat it to a sliver of health before quickly stabling them and recalling back to my rune. Then in your case you'd gulp the strength pot and heal up to full hps, precast invis, run up to the dragon's feet and drop the invis on yourself. Gives you a second to eat orange petals and then start trying to tame, invising as much as possible.

The only tricky thing at that point is to judge when to run and when you're safe to simply move a short distance and cast a heal. When the drag is really low on health you should find the damage is easier to contend with. I just invis when I can, following with a heal if necessary. It can take a bit longer if you retreat frequently, but it's worth being very cowardly till you get the hang of it.

I find the challenge a lot of fun, but I'm a bit crazy like that ;)

Good luck!

Beat the greater dragon down until he has barely a little health showing. Stable your pet and tame away..be sure you have good fc/fcr or you have someone helping to invise you when the greater targets you. Works like a charm :)

The easiest way to gain honor as a tamer is to get a pet that can kill a white wyrm. Basically a dragon, white wyrm, or cu sidhe. I'm sure you could do it with others if you combine vet with greater heal spells. Just set honor on a macro, honor when it spawns, sic your pet, and then stand on the white wyrm while your pet kills it. I gained the first level of honor in like 30 minutes like this. It is very easy to tame a dragon, white wyrm or cu sidhe using the lead method, but I had some trouble doing this with the greater dragon, which is why I went with the honor before doing a greater solo. Hope this helps

I soloed a lot of gdrags, witout peace or honor.

I was born as a tamer before lost lands landed, and been taming in fell for all years - and the way to lead tame is the best way imho.

But, I do have 80 magic resist on my tamer and a all 70 resist suit with fc 2/6.

Lead taming aint so hard, just keep 2 steps ahead and have macros for mass cure and heal and mini heal. And of course, the most important one easy macro for tame last target.

Peace is a joke, it fails too much and it breaks too fast.

Lead taming is just a practice and aint hard when u get the hang of it. Makes taming su's a piese of cake, while gdrags u got a challange. I sure collected death robes, but thats the fun of it.

Succubi are very easy with a cu. I go to the fan dancer dojo, to that first room where teh flowers spawn and then park my cu and hop on an ethy and lure the ronin away towards the demon side. Just walk as it is on you and then invis when you run back to your cu.

If the succubi is on that end of the room then invis yourself, sic the cu on her and then attack the ronin to lead it away.

The succubi has an area attack so you can't stand and heal your pet but must cast greater heal if needed. I have disco and just disco them so I don't ever need to heal my cu doing that.

Anyways, a good way to do it is this:

Have honor on an easy to hit macro
Have the cu follow you and run up within 8 tiles of the succubi
Backtrack one tile so you're on top of your cu
Honor the succubi
Disco the succubi if you have disco
sic pet on it
Go loot the previous kill
If you don't have disco, greater heal/cure your pet when needed

The respawn rate is very fast here.

If you are looking for honor and greater dragons, I can tell you of two spots that I regularly use to farm honor, fame, karma, gold, and greater dragons. :)

First: Wind. There is a single greater dragon spawn in there. If you lure all of the other stuff far enough away, you can use this spot all day. Honor the greater, let him get *one* hit in. (I always have a greater heal precast). Then haul it to the guard-protected area near the town border. He'll follow you there, where you can call for the guards and get him whacked. If he hits you before being guard whacked, you'll get honor. Lore him before whacking him to determine whether or not he's a keeper. :)

Second: Demon Temple. I have two runes marked: One for the outer part of the temple, usually near the entrance area and another within the building at the center. I lure mobs out from the central building, leaving only the greater dragon inside. I can then recall back in, summon my greater, and farm the greaters in there without any interference. Honor them first, and kill them off. You can lore for the perfect one while you're at it. While this method takes a bit longer than the guard whacking method in Wind, I like that I can train my greaters in a way that isn't totally boring AND get fame and karma out of it.
