How does your guild use social media?

I've been getting into blogging and Twitter lately and I was wondering how other guilds used social networks to communicate with their members.

Feel free to add comments in addition to the poll.

Through a forum community, of course, which is clearly the most robust and dynamic community networking medium available.

Ventrilo. Typed words alone carry no feeling or thought and is sometimes confusing. With voices however, everything is clear and without a doubt.

We use all of the above except a blog... that makes little sense.

We have 3 Ventrilo servers --- one for our WoW guild, one for our DAOC guild, and one for our UO guild.

We have 3 active websites --- one for WoW/DAOC, one for UO (UO's site had to be separate because its mostly RP-driven, the other one is PvM/PvP respectively), and one for our RPvP theme in UO called Order vs. Chaos.

We have a Facebook page for both TLP(WoW/DAOC) and CoD(UO),as well as OvC RPvP theme and a Twitter account for CoD, but we don't really use Twitter much. I find I use the CoD and TLP facebook page much more.

We use all of the above except a blog... that makes little sense.

I don't know how things are in your guild or community, but if members keep journals for their characters, as is common in some RP communities, then that is functionally similar to a blog.

We just use Ventrillo. We have a web page but it not used much. I hate facebook and I won't use it. I don't even know what twitter is. I have ICQ but I have gotten tried of the invites from the Russian bride wanna be's so it is not used.

I figure a blog would a lot easier to maintain than a website. Guess that's a personal preference. I've created two blogs in the last week and whipped right through them using Wordpress to set them up.

I'm suprised at the low use of Twitter so far. I figured that the hardcore UO junkies would want the ability to broadcast messages via SMS to guildies cellphones. (Folks aren't always sitting right in front of the computer.)

As for ventrillo, skype, etc. I don't consider them "social media." I was borderline on including ICQ and IM software in the poll. I guess I figured the "social" in social media implied public access to the content.

Well what I thought a blog meant in this case, is some sort of social media blog that has a wide audience. I use the WordPress software for both my sites for UO (CoD and OvC), but they aren't really "blogs" in the traditional sense.

I think Twitter is new enough that it wasn't around when many guilds were formed, so things like alerting guild members about an event was done via ICQ, or a forum post. Then, you have the adage of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Also, many MMORPGs have calendars and "Message of the Day"s as a part of their guild systems, so the need to communicate things outside of the games is not really something that's as important.
I mention this because habits from other MMOs tend to bleed into each other, and if Twitter were a big thing elsewhere, it may be that guilds would try it in UO.

We use Facebook, ICQ, and guild website courtesy of guild portal.

Easy ways to plan events and post them up in advance on the guild web site and Facebook. Sending out PUG events on icq for players not in vent at the time or not signed in the game.

Our guild is playing 2 games going so each game has its own website, facebook. We will have 3 web sites when some of us will move on to GW2 when that is released. Rift is the one I focus on more atm while some of the other leadership focuses on GW.

With all the ways of communicating and distributing guild leadership roles for each game out it works very smooth.
