Im not sure if i can say the website name so i will leave it out....

But i was wondering how does "this website" have every single vendors in Luna's inventory 24-7?

Is it a legal program? I always thought it had something to do with Luna but recently i have been seeing vendors that are outside luna listed on the site

Answers?

I'd say it's a very naughty program running scripts. Nobody in their right mind would manually check every vendor on each shard

They use illegal programs to collect the information contained upon the items on every vendor they include.

They then organize that information into a database.

It's just a shame that EA and the developers haven't come up with a better way to shop for things in UO. It's a PITA to shop for a specific item with specific properties.

I started using that site about nine or ten months ago and I rarely go out looking for something nowadays without checking there first.

Im confused though, because there is an option on the site to list your vendor even if your in Trammel....

do they come to your vendor and start scripting it? to add it to the site

I think yes. If you have a popular enough vendor they can include any location they want to.

I imagine it works simply by sending a character to your vendor and running the script. It's inventory is then included into the database.

So this means all the luna houses have someone hidden, scripting on it....and if this is considered illegal how come GMs dont visit all these properties?

Maybe they are
Whatever the case, I hope nobody is daft enough to invite these scripters to their shop. You don't want to be a legit trader and get a ban for some scripter standing on your doorstep. I doubt it would happen, but I wouldn't invite them just in case.

Yeah well i still dont understand it....

What does the site benefit by placing a character in your house?....there are what? probably 20-30 houses in Luna that means they have to put 20-30 characters at 12.99 per month + tax.

They dont charge for the service, sorry really dont like knowing something

They don't place a hidden scripter at your house. They probably have one character per shard that runs around Luna and recalls to individual vendors outside of Luna and runs the script at each house.

I've noticed the shops have updated times as far back as 18 hours or so. They only update each shard once or twice per day.

They don't just stand in one spot "scripting your vendor". (I imagine I will see an lolcats picture with the phrase "IM IN UR LUNAS, SCRIPTIN UR VENDERZ" plastered on it before this thread is over.) They set up a character with a rail script (a script that makes the character walk a predetermined path) and have it walk a circle around Luna, automagically opening each vendor it passes, recursively opening any interior bags, identifying all of the items therein, and then adding them to the database. After it makes a full circuit, it then recalls to any other spots that need to be indexed, and then it quits. Rinse, repeat every [insert amount of time here].

You want to know why EA hasn't done anything about this? Because it doesn't effect game play negatively. All these people are doing is listing items on vendors and showing you where that vendor is located. If anything it is a service to this game to have people around who are willing to do that by whatever means they use to collect the info. They aren't scripting skills or resources they aren't duping items or killing players or monsters so give it a break already.

And on a side note I would be pissed if someone got the site shut down because it only serves the purpose of bettering the game not hurting it in any way.
