How do you play in CC

gwen

Hi all.
Silly question but I really want to know hi to use Classic Client
I was using it in 2005-2006. Now I am playing in EC for 2+ years. I quite resource consuming on my laptop.
NoI am using CC only for my red toons yo gain Justice.
Want to try it more just stuck at everything. Can run here and there. But simple tasks like casting spells are hard. Have book. How to grab a spell? How to switch gear, heal, whatever. I found macro page in settings. Do I need to remember all shortcuts for each toon?
It here any manual how to grab skills, how to remember all keyboard shortcuts ( EC have panels).
Should use some other software ? (pm if it is not allowed here ) .

Far as I understand, general conversation is allowed here, but we cannot mention names of software or websites that carry them etc.
But we can rant here about them, esp since (some) Thief-types while invisible use them to grab the best power scroll out of our pack quickly in spawns, a painful experience to say the least. We definitely cannot advertise/mention these here by name etc. far as I understand.
Most Other (for CC) software are illegal at present, and if you admit it to the GM when/if they ask you that you are using, I think it may be either auto ban or "sanctioned" etc. In the future, they may approve "other software", but who knows.
Be that as it is and to each their own.

I use CC, no added software, it is awesome if you make and remember the in-game macros using what the game has already for CC. It is a little tedious to set up the macros, but with a little patience and experimentation it works fine. No fancy "vacuum" etc. macros, like in EC and no nice corpse gump to pick up what is best on boss loot, but pretty survivable overall. Also nicer (for me) graphics. I am tempted to seriously try to use EC though. But the sub par graphics and bugs kill it for me each time. But that's just me.
I hate cheating, scammers, cheating macro programs and hate RMT items and gold, so I will never touch the "other" clients etc. also.
There are some nice write-ups on UO in-game legal CC macros on self/enemy/pet/object etc targeting in this forum somewhere I think.
I used CC with sampire in "Treasures Of" events, and did ok, ((relatively) few deaths and no real complaints at all there with the in-game CC macros, targeting etc.
You just need to devote some time and patience, set the macros correctly, including auto-dress dress1,2,3 etc, heal etc etc. Then you remember what the macros are i.e F4 etc. Also there are icons you can drag and drop on game desk top, and click on those, esp for things you do not do often, or do not need immediate action etc. I think it is a little cumbersome given the clunky CC macro selection gump that you have to roll though ALL actions each time, but once you set up it works. I wish that some of the EC things would eventually find their way into CC, but will never happen, but it is ok. Good luck CC'ing.

@mihali I don't need complicated or somewhat gaining advantage stuff.
Just normal : switch items/gear invoke skill /mastery or a spell with predefined target (self or current) . May be some resource gathering: fishing , lumber , mining

Use uoassist or the painful Standard Editor for macros.
There is a new option to store 4 dresses into your classic macro file and you can switch Dressings as fast as with ec.
I think good speed also for items in hand. For this I use a combination of Uoassist (4 Setups storeable, disarm) and classic macro Editor. Equip last weapon.

unfortunately, all but the first 3 toons i created were born on the now defunct original 3D client.
Then I guess that makes you defunct :gee:

I'm not trying to be condescending so don't take this as an insult; do you know this for a fact (ie know what program / thing they use specifically)? The only reason I ask is because I've only ever really played with CC & UOA and I've been accused of running scripts / illegal programs etc going back at least 15 years because people just don't know how game mechanics work.

For example if I see something in your pack and target it while not near you; I can just use the in-game macro for last target to grab the item when I am actually next to you. I've had at least a handful of people accuse me of cheating when doing that because they don't understand how I could snoop/run along side them to steal something so for me it just comes down to people not understanding how that works.

This is exactly how it is done.

I'm the first to admit that I use 3rd party programs and clients, but I don't know of a script that automatically chooses the best scroll in a player's pack. I suppose I could write one, but "best" is a matter of opinion, so my script would be different than anyone else's. I use a "script" for stealing but the actions in the script include:

Use stealing skill
Last Target
Pause .5 seconds
Take screenshot

That's it. The actual stealing part is nothing that couldn't be done using in-game macros. The screenshotting doesn't really give me any sort of advantage.

A lot of people come to me for advice on stealing, because most thieves are pretty tight lipped about it. I teach them all the same thing: snoop, target, wait, steal. Doesn't matter what client or assistant they use, the technique is the same.

I appreciate that you are using game mechanics to practice your uo-approved trade, and it is ok. But I very much despise taking other peoples hard earned work, especially with non-approved mechanics/scripts/cheats. There is no way any of us can disclose name of illegal scripting to do this, or mention the software that was used to do this by the uo-criminal that did this. I hope you understand.
I think that enough said about this already.

That's the thing, none of this requires any cheats, scripts, or "non-approved mechanics" (whatever that means). Using these unapproved programs, for me at least, is simply a matter of convenience and preference. If you want to talk about the programs I use, you can DM me and I can talk about it all day, but I promise you will be underwhelmed at the amount of assistance these programs actually provide.

So killing you and taking your stuff makes me a leet fighter but stealing it makes me scum?
From a PKer you may have a chance to defend self and/or run and get away with your loot/ps etc. But from a thief you don`t have much of any chance of getting away with your loot, esp if the thief is expert at using some "special" techniques.
Basically by the time you know something happened, its too late. And thats after 20-30-40 minutes of running a spawn and often several grey robe trophies in the process. So I guess if it never happened to you, it does not exist? Also PKers are not Leet, since they usually go after players that have no chance of defending self most of the times. Most of the soloer spawners are Sampires, and some Tamers and necromages and they are easy prey and no mach for PK-specific templates.
Be that as it is, I still run spawns with my sampire and tamer, rarely ever get PK'd, and that is fine with me. Part of the game. A little more excitement! With a little care can defend against one run away from 2-3, but thief nope. Not yet anyway. Or if there is a way to get your stuff back from thieves I would like to find out.

Since I am in a good mood I will tell you the secret to avoiding being stolen from. It can be summed up in one word:

Move

If you are standing still and there is a thief around, you are probably being snooped and the thief is preparing for a run-by steal, which is a perfectly legal mechanic by the way. If you stay in motion, you are likely not going to be snooped at all and even if you are, it makes it much more difficult. Once that champ drops, you don't stop to oooh an ahhh at the scrolls you got or rummage through the junk in the champ's corpse, You run back to Trammel as fast as you can and look at your scrolls there.

You kill them. Most thieves don't have any combat skills at all and if they do, it's not enough to go toe-to-toe with even the most gimped PvM template. I myself run a "combat heavy" template on production shards, my template includes poisoning, fencing, and ninjitsu. It's not the most efficient template but poisoning is too much fun and I can't live without it anymore. So even with my "combat heavy" thief, any mage or dexxer can easily take me out so I have to rely completely on the element of surprise to get away. I'm never going to turn around and start fighting you. I might chuck a poisoned shuriken your way to give you something to think about besides chasing me, but it is only a diversion so I can get away and I rarely ever use it because my heart is pumping as I try to find a way to break LoS and hit my hide macro. One well targeted paralyze spell or mana vamp and it's usually all over for me. The trick is you have to be paying attention, it seems to me that your issue is that you let your guard down too early. A good thief knows why you are standing next to that champ's corpse and that you are preoccupied looking at garbage loot and that gives him the extra 3 steps he needs to grab your stuff and get out of there.

Guys , I think it went far off-topic. I don't need thieving techniques and moves or high efficient stuff. I need very basic things : dress my toon, change gear , use slayer instruments may be. Resurrect my other toons. Use bandages on self , open runebook without breaking my eyes. etc.
Just stuff support background toon will do.
Also looks like UOA is not free. Hmm additional fee to my sub expenses for ability to play CV looks no good for me.

To answer this question, yes you can do all of that in CC. You just need to setup the macros (in UO) for it. Dress /cast spell / use bandage are all regular macros.

This link gives you all the macros in game you can use.

Macro Actions Available in the Classic Client – Ultima Online

As far as using a slayer instrument; Gwenno's / Iollo's are going to cover 90% of what you need to bard and you just double click the instrument to use it (I didn't figure out that double clicking them changed which one you played; I thought you literally had to drop it to switch instruments... for literally like 5 years lol). If you are using this client as a secondary I'm guessing you will just be auto-following while using a bard mastery which you don't need to change instruments for.

The only thing that doesn't really have a macro is opening a runebook but honestly if you are using a runic atlas they are pretty big and should be too hard to double click.

What you will lose by not having UOA is the ability to select "target type" and to actually record a macro (ie - remounting while in war mode) and you also won't be able to set macros hotkeys on your mouse (my target self macro has always been on my MW down). Other than that UOA doesn't give you that much of an advantage over regular UO macros anymore.

CC and UOA player here, the only times I have ever used the EC is when house placing in a very tight location, that scroll in and out is awesome, and when some pancake has his/her vendor set to EC and the CC peeps see nothing but items stack, stack, stack and stack. etc.. I would love to see in VS an option to buy when I hit vendors like that.

UOA isn't free - you are correct. But it is a 1-time fee. I have left and returned to UO 3 times now. Each time I was able to reactivate the UOA with a simple submission of a seed from the proggie. No additional fee for that at all.

100% Thief-Proofing Your Character :

If your human, you can use the JOAT (Jack of All Trades) passive to cast magic lock/magic unlock on any chest/crate with zero real skill (I use small ones to keep clutter down in the CC packs). Keep a pouch/bag inside the chest/crate. Open the pouch/bag before casting magic lock & drag the open pouch/bag container gump off to the side of your screen. Leave it open & you may place inside, pick up, move around, or remove anything inside the pouch/bag that is inside the magic locked chest/crate. Thieves by default may not steal any container locked or trapped nor snoop any locked container in another player’s backpack.

You effectively have a container which may not be stolen or snooped while maintaining access to the pouch inside, as long as you keep the pouch gump open. You are now 100% thief-proof. The only way for someone to steal out of that pouch is to take the chest/crate off your corpse, which if your dead anyone could do regardless.

If you do die you’ll need to magic unlock the chest/crate, open the pouch (again, keeping the pouch gump open & moved outside your main playing screen), then cast magic lock again on the chest/crate. Basically repeat the process you did earlier. Once the pouch gump closes (due to death or user error) you always need to unlock to regain access.

You may also cast magic trap on the chest/crate to see if anyone is trying to snoop you. If the trap goes off, you know someone just click on it inside your pack.

I usually keep 5 orange petals, 3 trinny rose petals, 5 apples, & sometimes a tribal paint (to keep from turning into a rat at baracoon spawns) inside my pouch as backup if a thief steals them from my main pack. All power scrolls immediately go into the pouch. Thieves may attack you because they seem to get mad when players use this trapped chest/crate tactic. Some thieves get unhinged when you turn them into easily ignored pathetic verbal nuisances. If you have no magery skills and are not human, use of this thief-proofing tactic is limited (you will have to use scrolls) or unavailable.

Hope it helps :)

TLDR: Go back & read if you want 2 thief-proof ur toon. If not, nothing 2 c here. Move along.

Hmm... how can I have this post removed as to not give away the secrets?!

The ironic thing is that even if you give this advice to people, a majority of them are very self entitled and rather than doing that will just say "well I shouldn't have to do that to protect my hard earned X". Then they will continue to whine about stealing and try to have it nerfed into a PvM skill only.

You need to set macros. Lots of macros. I also use UOAssist since it was essential back in 2002, but nowadays all that functionality was added to CC macros pretty much.

Personally I like CC better than EC because I REALLY REALLY HATE how FREAKING UGLY everything looks in EC. I hate everything in EC, especially the character models. So I just set a macro in CC for every single thing I want to do and cry for the-day-that-will-never-be when we get EC item bars to use in CC.

But for real after you play this game for a few years in CC you become an expert macro creator. Let me know if you want I'll send you my macro files for my characters.

Hell look heres my macros for Spellweave/Mage. this should give you a good idea. I use UO Assist to put "target-self" on Mouse Wheel Down and "target-last" on Mouse Wheel Up. Everything else is set as a macro in CC.
I set all my spells to Alt+Some button so I can cast with my left hand easily by using my thumb to hit alt. This gives me access to tons of spells all at one side of the keyboard and it prevents me spamming spells while trying to talk to people like those jackassses that don't bother to use alt in their spell macros. . I use Alt+Shift+Some button to cast spellweaving abilities. I use Ctrl+Alt+Some button for less frequently used magery spells like walls and such. I use Alt+F1 to "disarm right hand" then use F1-F8 as arm buttons (4 of which I use UO Assist to set) so I can easily swap slayer spellbooks in combat. Alt+Some F Buttons are for Pet commands. And I have a few others. Anyway For a warrior I do the same except replace spells with stuff like target nearest / attack nearest and special moves.

You can find the macro files in MyDocuments/EA Games/Ultima Online Stygian Abyss (or Ultima Online Legacy)/"Account Name"/"Shard Name"/"Character Name"/macros2d.tx

So you can take the file i posted here and replace your mages macros2d.txt with mine and you will have all my macros. Or you can just look at the file and read it to see how its set (each macro is separated by #########). If you are having trouble viewing it make sure that you are viewing it in UTF-8 encoding. You probably don't have to worry about that, but I use notepad++ and it was screwed up until I did that.

In CC, destard looks bigger than in EC for some reason. At least to me. When I watch a streamer on CC they have all this room in that little nook heading down to level 2. On EC it feels so tight.

It is EC client users have less square footage. Not sure why ya'll do not complain about the discrimination.

Notice your viewing area is larger in EC to show the same thing... You'll also notice that you can run on the wall in EC a bit more than you can in CC. Thus the reason it looks smaller.
