Thieves used to be able to steal from various monsters and tamers used to be able to tame a pet, have it drop the loot and release - both cases left a monster walking around with no loot on them...

I think you can steal from juka lords for a chance at getting a juka bow. So if the code is in place, it seems like they could expand it to humanoids. I think it would be neat.

try doing random steals off things like liches and orcs, you used to be able to, dont know if they changed it.

Problem now is that loot is generated when a monster dies, so most things dont carry anything when they're alive

I dont think any monster or pet has any loot any more untill they die.
When they die it counts on your luck and then the loot is created.
The only loot that is before death now is on some npc like healers.

Being able to steal from humanoid monsters and NPCs used to be how I got many of life's little things. Wandering healers kept my full with band aids. The NPC fighters in Jhelom used to keep a few shinies in my bank...la

In the interest of ... well... interest, I'd like to submit an addition or two. I don't think very many people would want to make new thieves just to steal the common stuff that anyone else can get from stealing. However, if the thief were to be able to steal new and/or interesting things from the monsters, that may add a new reason to be a thief (admittedly, not as good as stealing from players, but still, a new reason).

So my addition is, when the mob spawns, there should be a chance of the monster carrying a new rare or semi rare item that vanishes or breaks when the monster is killed.

It could be a common decoration for orcs and the like, all the way up to new and useful artifacts for higher level mobs like say... Baracoon (he's a humanoid, no?).

This was taken out of the game for 2 reasons.

1. Npc's/Creatures no longer carry gold or items, unless killed. This removed a burden on the game memory system. So, Instead of 10,000 Npc's, with 5 items each, =50,000 items in game memory, you now have 10,000 Npc's, with 0, and 500 of them got killed, and 10 items each spawned, =5000 items.

2. Other players started complaining. They would fight a creature, a theif would walk up, and start stealing stuff off the creature, as it was engadged with the other player. The player Kills the creature, and get 0 Gold, and 0 Good items.

I used to escout the Noble's. You could rob them, and then actually take them to where they wanted to go, AND STILL GET PAID. I have been looking for a Job like that in RL for a long time now.......

You used to be able to steal from any creature that actually had a back pack, rather than just lose items. My husband used to steal from Lich and Lich lords.
