So it says when I try to place on my Magincia plot (with the writ in my backpack). Do I need to page a GM, or is there some sort of trick I'm missing?

Which plot? There have been a lot of problems with SW-4 I believe. Page a GM if you can't get it placed after trying for a while.

Happened to me too, you are trying to place in the wrong spot.
It took me an hour to place, I heard that trying to place in full screen mode was helpful.
I tried to place mine in the center of the rectangle, a 15x15 WILL fit, you just have to place it in the right spot.
It might take a while to pick the right square... like I said, it took me an hour.

You MAY be able to place without GM assistance. I verified that after about thirty mins, I did indeed hit the right spot, but there was a locked down debris piece that was blocking placement that had to be removed by GM.
Pull up the item handles and see if there is an object on your plot.

Adora, retry again in full screen if you are using the 2D client. After several unsuccessful attempts I was finally able to place in full screen mode.

Here's something helpful. Go to Atlantic and see where they placed their lot. The 15x15 space is predefined and can be tough to nail down.
This trick is probably one of the most helpful for New Magincia houses, you can even drop a marker in uoam or cartographer. The plots are very precise and you have to place them exactly. If you attempt to place just 1 tile out of the 15 x15 area you get the Housing cannot be created in this area message. Checking other servers is also great for resizing houses. A lot of people have smaller houses like towers in spots a keep fits and they didn't even realize it.
