House storage question for the developer team

Another thing with houses:
Why are owners of smaller houses still getting a penalty on house storage? While I agree, that legacy keeps and castles should remain as they are, couldn't all smaller houses get the same minimum amount of a current 18x18? This would reduce the area occupation with large spots, since many people would be happy with a smaller house in a potential better location (or even on another shard in a remote area) if the storage would not be so limited. They all pay the same money, also for the storage increases, but they get different amount of real storage dependent from the house size.

I don't think this is fair against paying customers any more, especially since the old hardware limitations which made this decision necessary in the beginning of UO are no longer there. Or are there any other reasons for this?

How about because the bigger the house the more it holds...:/

We might see less subdivisions of max-size-that-will-fit houses if all houses had the same storage. How many players who don't play the big-house-status-game would go for a smaller house out in the countryside if it had the same amount of storage as an 18x18?

In the Siege house discussion thread people feared about a secondary house would clutter up the shard really fast.
On a production shard you may have the choice between a nice spot for the eye and role playing (player towns) or for vendor location with a small house or a large house somewhere in Malas - or no large house at all as on ATL.
So making storage equal would give players more choice about location - and not everyone needs a large size plot even if he is not very capable to design leading to borg cubes.

I still think they should do another Mini-expansion... create a nice server for each shard that is nothing but black space... make new teleport tiles that are like a hole with a ladder, a hatch on the floor, or a magical symbol of some sort and then you place that in your house and you get a new "basement" depending on perhaps how much you pay you either get 18x18, 24x24 or 32x32 megga basement/dungeon to custom design and deco as well it comes with say 2,400, 3,600 or 5,000 storage respectively with the purchase. This wouldn't add more houses to the land, wouldn't put more items into your house per-say but it would give folk way more storage and since it's on it's own special server it wouldn't be that difficult. The new server would have it's own special house deco tool that had special "basement/dungeon" tiles since these tiles are already in-game it wouldn't be too much extra work. There would be no stair tiles... since there wouldn't be any stairs... you would either have the ladder or teleporter to put in to return to your "house". Since there is already code in place for teleport tiles that take us from one house to another this wouldn't be that difficult to code either. And it would generate income for UO as folk who want more storage would then buy the expansion.

Back in 97 when the shardswere new andht e grass was green all over you just needed to pick a spot.... storage was never the issue.... It was keeping the house!
I have many friends who are very satisfied with a 7 x 7... but complain of the storage for 6 or in some cases 7 characters living out of one place wiht a gamut of skills needed room for suff...... Vendors took bods out ofthe way for some. The changes in stackables helped more... but still I feel for the poor player who still has that room issue. Its what drove many to seek out a 18x18 or even the castle or keep. I will admit on some shards i only have a few small homes... and have found me wishing I could make them bigger for the storage too. 66+ houses later.... I have upgraded where and when I could to make that space issue a thing of the past.
I have to agree with the op. Mesanna needs to check if there is a way to give the smaller houses perhaps under a spacific size a large upgrade. Oh there will always be that person who is enveous of my castles but thats not for size or cap of lock downs. To take the pressue off giving all houses undr keep or castle the same lockdowns as a tower or 18x18 might go long to stop the house size race. Many just have crates locked down holding their stuff and could give a rats behind how it looks or the size of hosue if it had the same lock downs.

I would love to down size to a smaller house if it meant I could keep the full storage ability of the larger house.
Better yet, all houses including keeps and castles should have the same storage.
Just because you might not use the storage doesn't mean you shouldn't have the option to.
