Yes, that would make a great store token - adding search capability to your character which helps you to find downlocked, secured, carried or banked items in (co)owned houses, in which you just are, in the bank boxes of all characters on the account/shard, in their backpacks or on their paperdolls etc.
As it is I would buy such a token for all my active accounts.

If your going to be a great hoarder. Need to learn to be a great sorter. Otherwise it is just a junk pile.

I have a junk pile called my 4th account. Characters, house and the holdings are of no loss if shut down. Or what used to be called a Mule account and BoD house.

"Hello? It is called spring cleaning" Task that is even needed for pixels.

Well I dunno if it should be that sophisticated, I'd be happy to have to travel to each house to look for something. If we ask for too much we definitely won't get anything.

Some of us have some kind of malady called "Hang onto that, you may need it later". Nice that you're so neat and organized, but neat and organized don't equate to remembering what is where in this game with thousands of items.

No I am a hoarder. And I know I have a problem. And I'll "Hang onto that, you may need it later" also. I just realize things I can not find must not have been that important. And if I clean my houses then those lost items will never become collector items. And if my swordsman template thinks a weapon or armor is sweet it better go in his bankbox. When I do clean it is for vendor bait.

I perfer the title of "Hoarder Lord" over lazy and/or nasty

I don't remember a time when I had problems finding anything in my house. Some of you guys must have way too much stuff and must be very disorganized if you routinely have this issue. :p

Furthermore, the EC w/ Pinco's UI actually has a search feature on individual containers to quickly look through something.

This seems like a feature which would probably require quite some time investment to implement and only really be of great use to a small handful of people.

Spiritless hit that nail on the head. I forgot how much life improved on containers ditching CC for EC. Few things have a size issue in grid view like the halberd. Things I have to look for are the "been there and done that" things. And then there was no follow up and they got buried. Like growing plants of every shape and color.

When I cleaned and sorted my castle for the new 3d stretchy window containers. Now those rocked. I tossed out 133 bags that was used for sorting so the CC bag wasn't a layered clutter. Be best having the code mages waste time putting the appaloosa, pinto paint and a clydesdale pulling a gypsy wagon into the game.

Can the OP inform us of the perfered client?.

10 houses, max storage or larger, distributed over various shards + increasing age (brain not as it once was) + a stack of stuff from this or that IDOC can cause a lot of confusion ;)
Also several active accounts and their bank boxes are also not exactly empty.
Yes, horder here, and not a minion.

How, exactly, would this even work?
My idea is keep it simple, it would search for anything in the house only, no bankbox, no friended or co-owned houses and would work only for the house owner. Search by name just like the vendor search basically. I'm not a programmer so I have no idea how complicated it is but I'm reasonably sure it's not even remotely close in complexity to the vendor search.

Would this just be to see what is in the house or do you also envision it informing the player as to where in the house the item of interest is? I ask because if it is just to see what is in the house I can't see much value for it other than leading to a kind of reaction where one goes "Great, my hours of searching through my mess will not be in vain." :p

Great point.
Do you want to be able to specifically find something or do you just want to know that that something is in your house?
And no offense but anyone wanting to search for something that they don't even know if they own is just plain ridiculous.
No need at all for the devs to spend even one second of resource time on such nonsense.
There are a million ways to organize your house. Stop being lazy and take advantage of them. I don't care how many shards you play on.

Id probably use this, my house is clutter free and organized. however it would be useful to find an armor piece / jewel with specific stats or resist. even a clean house, doing that out of about 500 pieces can be time consuming, and i know many have a much more extensive crafting setup then me.

That being said, we all saw what a mess vendor search was to get out. It even caused a bad bug that cuased items to poof off vendors. Would i want to risk that with every container in my house? no way.

There are much more valuable things the devs can work on.

I dont buy the "my brain is old" thing for a second. plus, automated systems that do thinking / remembering for you only promote a lazy brain and further diminish brain function.

So i say NO.

Its not needed. Remember where you put your stuff or your brain will turn to marshmallows faster than UO already causes it too.

First you admit, that you have absolutely no clue of how complicated this is. But still you find it reasonable to think, that it is not even remotely close in complexity to vendor search? Seriously?

It all depends on their database model. It can either be implemented in no time or the model (or lack of same) can make it nearly impossible and completely unfeasible.

If you don't remember, where you put your stuff, devise a system of where you put which items. Also containers can be labeled, etc...

Exactly, containers can be labeled, colored, etc. Everyone have different tools to organize their stuff.

Asking the devs to code something because some players are very lazy is sad. It took several months for the devs to have a vendor search that only search on 1 shard, so I really hope they dont take this request seriously because they will waste again a couple or more months of coding time.

Funny thing my last UO Hubby said was nearly the same as The Old Man...
"Gosh hun, how do you know where everything is when I need it and I cant remembr where I left my shoes five minutes ago?
I was the search..... hehe
So what your asking for is a item idenity locator for home use.

More items like the Davie's Locker and BOD books that put items into a database and we can retrieve them when we want. Greatest idea ever. Thank you for the original BOD books Hanse!

...

My "house search" = grid view in the EC and organization (well some anyway). With Pinco's UI you can go even further and search each container by item name.

Basically, for some, it already exists (for others it may not exist, but only by choice)

I apologize for my stupidity, firstly for posting this. Forget I ever did it, on with it, I'm outa here. I didn't mean to downplay the simplicity or the complexity of this, my knowledge of programming is zero. Some of you people are just way way over the top, post some idea that you think would be a good idea and boy, get flamed like it's PVP.

I built spreadsheets for such things. Make a wall of chests 4 high and 10 long. Then organize, write it down in a spread sheet, never lose anything.

I need to do that Scribbles. Seven houses full o'stuff. Every time I go to find something it is a treasure hunt.

I would definitfly by a "Wife Token" from Origin to be able to search a house.

Idea was fairly selfish and sucked so you took a bit of heat for it. No big deal. I have certainly posted some bad ideas in my time lol.
It's a forum, what did you expect?
Get over it and maybe drop the whole martyr thing though?

That's more like an "anti-wife" token for me, reversing someone's rearrangement without understanding what some things are, and therefore not knowing what I'm talking about when asking where something went.

The other day I was searching for some cape from some event [throws a wadded ball of paper at Bob's head] No capes! and I thought to myself boy if I could use a house search like the vendor search it would be great! I just knew I had one somewhere but over the years we tend to forget whose bank has what which house has what, which character got the drop... etc. I have all my crafting stuff in one home, the rest are well.... stuffed. Stuff full of stuff pertaining to other character types. Ask someone who tries to give me prezzies and my house is too stuffed.. MUHUWAWA! That'll teach them to be nice! I suppose all of us have useless stuff and I have turned in quite a bit of items to the clean-up, but some things are not worth parting from.
