House Gone?

So I logged on Napa today (had been about a week) and my house and all contents are gone. I logged on standing right where I would have been on the roof but no house. Don't know what happened but the open spot just south of yew gate in fel was still open so I just dropped a foundation on the same spot to hold it.

Could the house have been demolished by a co-owner? I don't know if that's possible. If not, anyone have a clue what could have happened?

Thank you,

-Locker

Was it a relatively recent house?

Last publish, they accidentally turned off the blocks that prevented placing in a guard zone (such as very close to a gate. They warned the very next day that ALL those houses that were placed in such a manner dould be deleted.

Granted, they were supposed to have been deleted that Monday, but many stood for a lot longer.

No it's south of yew gate and lots of other houses around it. It was placed before that patch... way before, but thank you.

Change your passwords and check your bank boxes, you may have been hacked!

If by hacked you mean someone has my account information that is highly doubtful. I don't ever share my account, no one knows the account name and I change my passwords every week (thank god for KeePass).

I have opened a ticket with EA. I didn't have much hope but I did get a reply and the rep offered to check to see if the house was lost to game mechanics. If he come back and says it was my fault some how, so be it at least I learned what happened. No idea what will happen if he DOES confirm it was lost to game mechanics, I only ever seem to hear horror stories.

Any updates received will be posted here for informational purposes in case other users experience this issue.

Peace,

me and criminal were both hacked few months ago - we both had accounts/houses on napa. the hacker(s) dropped both our houses when they were done cleaning us out. i don't know how they got my account info and he doesn't know how they got his. since you're on napa too, just wondering if it's connected. sorry to hear about your loss. i'm interested to hear what ea comes back with.

i was lucky enough to login just in time to see my house gone but everything still on the ground. was able to re-place my house and salvage a lot of my stuff that they didn't take. they took everything valuable of course, but at least i got back a lot of it.

That sucks. If some how someone found out my account name and hacked the password they didn't get much to clean out, I'm only a 4 month UO player. Some leather piles, normal loot weapons and jewels (never did a big spawn or peerless mob), some plant seeds and half empty potion kegs for gardening.

In fact the house location was worth way more than the contents as it was just south of yew gate in fel. Plot was still open too so I just dropped a foundation where the old house used to stand.

To be honest, it's not so much that I lost anything super valuable, it's the idea that this COULD happen when, in my mind, my security procedures are good. I can't rule out anything at this point, game bug, hack, new invisible house attack for ninjas... hoping to at least find out because if all I get is a shrug from EA, I don't think I'd have the confidence to keep playing knowing that my entire house can just vanish at any point.

We'll see if anything comes of this and I'll post updates here.

well, locker, all i can say is that i've played for a little over 5 years and i've been reading the boards for 3 years and i've never heard of a house just going *poof* so hopefully ea can tell you what happened, but i wouldn't hold my breathe... i really hope this doesn't discourage you to keep playing! i can donate to you some leather and stuff - i have a lot of bulk resources that they didn't take. please let me know if i can help!!!

i guess my point was that i've never heard of random houses just disappearing by anything of ea's doing. it's all been the doings of hackers.

Well the house definitely poofed and I would like to start with the reasons NOT causing the poof:

Hacking
Game Bug
New Ninja "Hide House" Skill

We will now reveal the cause of the great vanishing house mystery of 2008:

Locker = N00b

Laugh I guess no one really took me seriously when I said I was new to the game and was looking for some reason why it could have happened. There was a very simple reason:

You can only have one house in UO.

Yea that seems simple to the veterans but I've played lots of other games before UO and if say World of Warcraft has a rule where you can only have one Horse, that would translate to one Horse per server.

I didn't realize that one house meant ONE HOUSE like in the entire UO world. I incorrectly assumed it meant one house per shard. I had placed and been doing some playing on Pacific. I placed a house there, got the standard warning that other houses would be condemned but never thought that would affect something on another server.

I was seriously unaware that UO servers/shards actually shared some kind of informational link. It's cool... I was just clueless. So now, since I placed a new house right back on napa it has condemned my house on Pacific and seriously cramped my plans for a house on Atlantic.

So hopefully if this happens to someone else they'll find the answer here or even better, they learn how the "single house" rule works and not make same error.

Personally I am happy to find this out... it's much better news than "shrug" or "someone hacked your account". So I guess I don't mind having a moment of stupidity when it works out well in the end.

we've all done stupid stuff in game locker, glad to know what really happened though. i can see how you'd make that mistake though. be nice if we could all have one house on each shard :)

Well back in the day before AoS(Age of Shadows) one could have a house on each shard and also on each char. of each shard (if you had the funds to do so). My account along with others got "Grandfathered" so that as long as we kept our houses up without altering the original plot size when converting it to a customizable home or placing/accepting another home then all homes would still be ok. :)
