What happens to accumulated turn in points if a character transfers to another shard, and then back?

Do the points transfer with the char to various shards?
Are they left in limbo on the original turnin shard until char returns?
Are they gone and lost forever?

Any ideas? Has anyone tried a xfer since turnins went active?
