Hit Lower Defense.....

There was a previous thread that touched on this, but there was not a definitive answer, so here goes another attempt:

In PvM, if i have 120 swords and 45% HCI, and am going up against a creature with 100 wrestle, i have a 84.6% chance to hit according to stratics 'to hit' calculator.

Now, the question is, if i am wearing the mace n shield glasses, and my HLD property goes off (lasts 8 seconds and reduces defenders DCI by 25)....

Does the creatures DCI stay at 0, or does it go to -.25?

'If' it stays at zero, the mace n shield glasses would be useless for PvM because creatures do not have DCI. However, if it can truly go negative, then according to the 'to hit' calculation, when the HLD goes off, i would have a 112.8% chance to hit (so would hit 100% of time for 8 seconds).

Does anyone know if a creatures DCI can go negative when HLD mod goes off?

Hit Lower Defense affect's the target's DCI, which DOES go into negative numbers if possible from HLD.

Similarly, HCI can go into negatives from Hit Lower Attack....

Thank you Basara, one follow up......

If a creatures DCI can go to -25%, then that means 100% chance to hit for 8 seconds. Do you know if there is a cap on chance to hit - in other words, did UO put a cap at 99% so there is always a chance to miss?

Also, is there anyway to know when your HLD mod goes off? (does it make a noise, or something appears on the screen saying it went off and counts down 8 seconds?)

Thanks Much!

I makes a noise, yes...

Not sure about if there is always a chance to miss, or not.

Personally, as a PvM-only player, I miss the way Double-strike used to be where when it went off on a hit, the extra hit went off as an automatic hit - but the PvPers complained too much, and they made it to where the extra strike has to "roll to hit" as well....

Thanks much. I think i will definately try to piece a new suit together and use the M&S glasses. I will probably go back to using a fast wep like the soul seeker so that will pretty much guarantee that i am always in that 8 second period (30% chance each swing, and swing 6 times in 8 seconds!) and i can also chug pots. I have been using an uber ornate axe the last 2 years.

I have been studying and playing around, and i *think* i have an unbeatable template......

120 sword
120 bushido
110 parry
100 ninja
100 tactics
75 anatomy
60 chiv
35 necro

They necro may be swapped out for 35 resist or add 25 back to anatomy, 5 to chiv and 5 to ninja.

Basic template is this:

- have a wep similar to soul seeker (extremely fast so you dont need a ton of stamina)
- suit that is all 60-70 in all resists
- Attributes around 100/100/80 with full suit on

45 HCI and 45 DCI

Idea:

- Get into Wraith Form for unlimited mana
- Constantly have 5 mirror images up
- Constantly use bushido Evasion
- Make sure to HONOR foe

Have not tried it yet (training Ninja is SLOW!!!! and im only at 63) but....

basically, with 120 fightiing skill, bushido and parry, creatures will only have about a 25% chance to hit you each hit. With evasion up, you will deflect most of their spells. The 25% chance that they DO hit you melee, you will have a 70% chance of deflecting that hit to your mirror image!!!

Basically, you will get hit by melee less than 10% chace.

When you do get hit, which will be rare, your HL leach should be enough to keep you full. If you do need it, carry 20 Greater Heal pots.

Your swinging max once every 1.25 secs with sould seeker, so your HLD should always be on, making you hit every swing for leeches, and most importantly, keeping your honor maxed out for double damage.

I think this template is almost unbeatable, but have not tried it yet. In theory, it seems like the ultimate 1 on 1 template that can tank just about anything becuase your defense is so high, you will rarely get hit.

Does anyone see any cracks in this template?

Can tell i havent played in a while - i was using evasion like you said, and i was like, WTF, why is it making me wait (seemed more like 12 seconds in between though).

Thats what i get for taking about 9 months off!

NInja training is going VERY slow, so this temp will take me a while to fully test. I do see that i will probably have a problem leeching life. If evasion is unable to be spammed, tons of spells will hit me, and i am not sure my leeching will keep up with the spell damage i take. I may not be able to do this in wraith form, may have to stay in vamp form.
