Best time to find lots of people is from about 6-11pm AEST. There is no way to check how many are online at once, but you can talk in global chat (same way you talk in guild chat except use , {commar} to type) to get some idea.

Hard to say what the total average number of players would be, nothing anywhere near the US shards, but I'm guessing probably somewhere between 50-200 during peak times depending on the day. Sunday and Monday nights seem to be the most active days, with Friday night being the quietest by a long stretch (unless you are in the guild that can't spawn when there is anyone on, they have a lot on most Fridays).

It's a good idea to use Global Chat, which you can access from the menu strip in either client.

Help channel seems to be the more popular one on Oceania. It's not exactly bursting with people as not everyone uses it and I would guess like any online forum most people lurk. You can get a sense of what people are doing, though, from the more vocal users. I've seen people use the chat channel even though they're bunched together in the same place, so it looks like the preferred means of communication now. And of course, getting into an active guild doesn't hurt at all.
