Here's a thought

A previous post about a "Siege Event Council" got me to thinking. What about
a Guild created for the single purpose of devising, organizing, implementing
and over seeing player events on this shard.

When going about their normal, day to day activities, the members would not
display their Guild title, and wear their normal "street cloths". But when
conducting "Guild Business", whether it be scouting or setting up locations,
or playing the part of the long lost "official EA Event Moderators", they would
display their Guild title and wear their official event "uniform". Something
garish enough that it's not likely to be worn be another player, but not
enough to make you want to vomit, so they would be easily recognizable.

These event would not be the single day "tournament" type, but long, drawn
out sagas, possibly starting out as a rumor posted here on the boards.

Of course member of this Guild would be bound by honor to uphold the Guild
Charter, ie. leave all personnel feelings against certain players, Guilds at the
door when they put on the Guild Uniform, sworn to silence about the event
when it comes to friends, and COMPLETE impartiality in ALL aspects when
running the event.

What I would be interesting in knowing is...

1. Would this Guild have a place on this shard?
2. Would enough Players be interested in joining this Guild to have a chance
of being successful?
3. And would certain "anti-social" types honor the "non-combatant" nature of
the Guild members when on "Guild Business" for the benefit of the shard?

Discuss.....

*chuckles* I think people will take their shots at Kelmo, no matter the Guild tag.

Then a Guild such as this would not be a place for you. It's not meant to be
a place to hide, using the tag as an umbrella. In preparation for an event,
items would need to be gathered for event items. Might be Power Scrolls,
Arties, gold whatever. They would either be donated for such event, or
gathered by the Guild at a Champ spawn. But here, they are still fair game
by anyone who would want to have a go. Only during the actual event would
there be an understanding of "hands off", so the event could be played out.

The events themselves could be as simple or as complex, as long or as short
as the Guild members can come up with.

I think you could find some interest, but you'd have some very tough issues to deal with in terms of the following:

1. Some people will murder you no matter what.
2. With siege only having 1 character per account, it might be hard finding people willing to devote $13/month just to running events.
3. Because you're not a real EM, you can't create real events, they would all have to be scripted by players, therefore you may have to constantly delete and start new characters just to get certain plots going. Which means the account is virtually unusable.

1. That's the point of item #3. An appeal for restraint on some for the greater good. Failing that, it would just increase the challenge of devising
an event where rampant PKing of staff would have as little impact as possible.
2. Their account won't be devoted just to running an event, they would be
free to pursue their own interests when "off duty", giving as much time as
they like as needed.
3. Yes, the events would have to be scripted, limited only by the imagination
of the guild members. Having enough members join, in order to get as
diverse selection of skill sets as possible, would only aid in carring out the event.

This would also be a good place for players who are finding the game less
interesting, and are looking for something new and challenging to try.

Hold up! Why such rudeness? You're the one who asked if certain "anti-social" types honor the "non-combatant" nature of the Guild members when on "Guild Business" for the benefit of the shard. All Kelmo said was that he would be a target no matter the tag. It's probably the truth, but said in jest.

When it comes to ideas like the one you are presenting, Kelmo is your man. I wouldn't be so quick to burn bridges with such rudeness.

Thank you Kat, for your kind words. I sense an agenda here. I will have no part of that. I will never hide. I am what I am. If I am not welcomed to this sort of think tank, I can live with it.

I never hide. *bristles* Most every one knows me.

Oh my...the second most important question everyone asks is:
Who is in control?
I have no delusions about players on Siege Perilous... they come here with
their own self-interest. If anyone could, would cause such cooperation that
would be required by your posted idea then we would have crowned are own
version of Lord British. Not going to happen! Why? There is nothing in the game
that would enforce such control.

You are required to play the TRUST game! We know how that ends on SP.
But, you can try...

Have to agree with Kat. And besides, anyone trying to do something good on this shard is going to be a target, just for that alone. You can hardly say Kelmo is a hider, when he daily juggles modding and being an active player in one of the major faction alliances in SP. He has been a part of this shard for a long time and led many successful events. He is trusted by many people, on both sides of the field. When he needs to, he can make amazing things happen, and usually behind the scenes without public thanks. It is his way.

My comments were not aimed at Kelmo, or anyone else in particular. Perhaps
I could have used better words, but I was just trying to illustrate that a Guild
such as this was never intended to be a haven for those seeking to avoid the
normal day to day goings on that come with playing on this shard.

This idea has some merit, and I think everyone would like to see events return regularly to Siege. But it really isn't very practical, to my way of thinking. I think the idea put forth recently of guilds or individuals agreeing to participate in an event rotation, so that there is an event planned every week, but no one guild/group has to bear the burden of organizing something more than every couple of months is a very practical approach that should work very well. Events do take time, resources, and effort. They are rewarding, and it is worthwhile to spend effort to enhance a lot of people's play time, but people who are ALWAYS in charge of events burn out, and burn out quickly, and things get stale. Then there is the issue of friends, guild tags, and our "everyday" social crowd. No one really wants to give up routine identity type things that enhance their personal game experience to just be able to create situations for others to enjoy...it just isn't balanced.

And then there are the mountains out of mole hill people that ruin the fun of people trying to do a good thing for the shard with their volunteer time and work... Sometimes I wonder if it is a jeolousy of someone else getting recognized for their effort and not themselves... It is a thankless job... and if they don't want to participate, which they don't usually, they will spin negativity around the event until the workers just thow up their hands and say screw it... but have at it... your biggest problem will probably be the those that get on and brag about their own past events, they really can milk it for all it is worth, and not really interested in helping someone else do theirs.. even to the point of causing problems.. But oh boy can they talk the talk...

Leaving aside the issue where one group always planning the events would get burned out, Ktorr's idea of the event planning guild would probably work fine on a regular shard, as you could just use one of your 6 char slots and make an event coordinator char to join the guild, and not interfere with the status of your other chars. That way when you were on "event business" you would just use the char with the appropriate tag. I think QZ has done this on regular shards with other people.

On Siege though, where we have 1 char per account, it is just not practical.
