Any suggestions?

I GM'd it and put it in a stone because I had read at one point that it would become a viable skill. It really wasn't too difficult but I can't remember exactly how I did it because it's been a very long time since I trained it. Sorry I'm no help :(

Do any of the herders know if the Boom stick works as a herding crook?

If not are their any miror arty crooks...or is my best bet making one with a runic carp tool?

About the training, I went to the bottom Tokuno gate where gamans spawn and just herded the ones there over and over. My tamer took 5 of them home and put in a pen and let my herder herd them for a few hours. This took me up to around 80 pretty fast. Then my tamer took 5 cus and turned them loose in the same pen. It took a few hours to get to gm, but it was fun and actually pretty fast.

Boom sticks don't work for herding, but the crook can be in your pack when you use it, so you could have a boom stick equipped and herd with a crook. I favour brightly coloured 100% damage crooks then they stick out in my backpack when it gets a wee bit messy ;)

As for training, I'd recommend Petra's guide here :)

that is a great link...I searched stratics for hrs the other night and found nothing....maybe that should be added to the taming FaQ since herding does belong to this forum!

:( Due to circumstances created before my tenure the search function on Stratics doesn't work too well. The menus either side are helpful if you use those instead. herding is listed both under 'skills' in the left hand menu and under 'professions' in the right hand menu.

I GM'd herding in about 30 mins last night. From vendor trained. :x

Seriously, no joke.

I went to UOGuide, found their small taming guide, which is slightly out of date.

I got a crook, and on my stealth/hide thi ef I just went out and this is what I did. (IMPORTANT: I use the enhanced client.)

I went to the areas with the creatures of the desired level and set targeting to enhanced version where you can keep the target.

I then put my crook on a hot key.

I then just pushed the hot key over and over. You don't even have to tell the animal to go someplace to get gains. I told it to follow me, just so I didn't have to follow it, but after that, I never gave it commands.

Just push push push. lol

GM in ~30 mins.

I GM'd it in about 90 minutes... I suppose it's possible in 30 minutes. LOL

I started a thread several months ago with what I herded for gains. If I remember correctly, I was doing drakes and dragons at 80-100 skill for gains. Set up a macro to repeat the herding skill and just hold it down for gains. You don't have to direct them to go anywhere when you succeed, just herd gain (btw, that's a bug in my mind).

Actually, at 80 I think I went to Destard and did Greater Dragons. lol I was trying Gaman, and Hiryu's but decided to just try the GD, and it worked all the way up to GM. Took maybe 5 mins from 80-100...
