How do I make my herald face the direction I wish him to?

I place them 1 or 2 tiles from where I want them to face and the spot I want them in. Tell them to follow and have them halt and stay where you REALLY wanted them to be.

Royal pain and after a few times replacing them after deco ... I just left them deeded.

Question....does the herald have to be facing a certain way to say anything.
