So for the past several days on Sonoma I've noticed the help channel blaring an advertisement for buying gold. On a non-EA-sanctioned site, of course.

I was annoyed, so I paged (Other, Other categories) and wrote up the ICQ address being blasted, and the message he kept shouting about selling a mill in-game gold for one dollar, paypal accepted, etc.

Of course, being the UO help system, a few epochs passed and no response, so I just logged.

Lo and behold, I got an email in regard to this:

(paraphrase) "Regarding your GM page on 2/13/2012: You must target the person who is verbally abusing you for us to be able to examine the records and determine if the terms of service are being broken."

Say what?

If you buy your gold outside of the game, I don't care. However, I never approved of players selling items to other players for real currency in any MMORPG because it promotes cheating, camping and duping and other destructive practices because it becomes a business and not a game. But that's just my take. However, I'm pretty sure actually selling items like this inside the game IS outside of the terms of service.

Has anyone else seen this happening on their shards?

Yes and this has been brought up before, EA doesn't seem to care.

:(

Out of all of my disappointments with Ultima Online, I'd have to say far and away the worst is the lack of enforcement from EA.

I remember when they went on their big anti-duping crusade, and were talking about these big raids and banned accounts, but I still saw the worst duping offenders conducting business as usual. "We banned 10,000 accounts this weekend!" Grand. Meanwhile The Dupe of Earl down the street on Luna still is selling 30 Ornaments of the Magician on one vendor.

Lack of enforcement generates more of the bad behavior. After all, why should I have to play by the rules when I see nothing bad happening to the cheaters?

they can't stop it unless they make trial accounts either disappear or not allowed to type at all. there will always be gold sellers.

With the recent idoc 'event',I have traveled the lands seeking which plots would fall. Many times I have seen house names that stated that the house was for sale with only real-life transactions accepted. One even had a phone number to call to "bid" on the castle. It is also my opinion that if someone owns a plot in Luna,it was not typically bought with in-game gold or items.

eh same thing happened in Warhammer Online advice chat.

Gold spammers, all the drama and cussing chat from each tier, just gets old.

They have to pay for their accounts to speak in region or advice chat so EA makes money off of them also :)

Farming gold in UO is easy and I'm surprised people still have to buy it.

Wasn't there restrictions on trial accounts speaking in general chat and all that in UO?

Could somebody remind me or was I dreaming......
