Hearth of the home fire issue...

Hello all!

Well I was trying to place a hearth in an rp tavern that I am co-owned to. I find that I cannot place it on the west wall at all. Now I have a house I own that I have two hearths placed (one on each floor, second and third, what would be on top of each other) on the west wall with no issue at all.

I can place the hearth a tile east, just not against the wall.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why! I have tried placing goza's and raising 2-3-4 times and havent been able to place that way either.

The images attached show the layout. I've tried it with nothing on the wall as well. With one exception, the sword and shield hanging vet deco that a GM has to remove.

Has anyone encountered this? Could it be that shield deco preventing me from placing the hearth?

Thank you so much in advance!

Also check the floor above, sometimes the hearth does not like items above it.

Well there is roof above it, but in both instances (in both pictures). I have tried it without the other deco as well and still its the same old you cannot place here message. :/

I have found that for it to place "properly" on a west wall, two wall tiles need to be removed where you want it to be - and when placed it will fill the spot quite well. These would be the 2 tiles between the bookcases.

For any floors above I create a chimney effect with wall pieces ... making a nice spot for a trophy or something as well. You can then delete 4 roof tiles in the chimney area (2x2) and use half-walls to complete the chimney top.

You could also try removing two roofing tiles directly above where the hearth will go. It seems like I tried this once, but I no longer have a custom house to try it again. It will should like a chimney outside too.

it might be those edge tiles along the wall... I know they look nice, kinda like a baseboard, but I *think* they might block movement? and if so, perhaps they are blocking the placement

*edit* forget that thought, test back up and the hearth places just fine

was going to hop on test and try it out (already tried those walls with roof above, and hearth places just fine up against the wall, didn't think about floor tiles til just now) but I logged into test and then it went poof!

one of my roofs with the hearth poking thru, it's just one roof tile missing

*edit again!*

recreated a piece of your room, and if you're certain you are targeting the southernmost tile then it might be the shield display that is the problem ~ don't have those on test to try it out ~~ also had to use the deeded broken bookcases, but that should be the same as the full ones

You don't happen to have a candelabra of souls below that do you??? Or a parrot.... Either of these objects below will keep you from placing it...

Also .... cutting out the two roof tiles above generally works.

the hearth will place and pop right thru the roof, it's the stone oven that needs an opening, and yes, I think it is two tiles... for the hearth to appear as in my example above you only need to remove one roof tile :) works like a charm

also try to use the circle of transparancy, some walls are thicker than others, and you can have issues laying down deeded items unless you place behind them.
