I know some of you may know that in the past UO communities have gotten behind a few charities.

There was Hurricane Katrina Fund Raising, 9 /11 Memorials and the group of Ladies from Catskills that did "Relay For Life" for breast cancer.

Well today I was sent a link for an event on Napa Valley for Down Syndrome called "The Buddy Walk".

Take a moment to read the thread and show your support. - CLICK HERE

Personally RL dramas should never get dragged into uo.

A lot of ppl play uo for a bit of escapisum (sp?)

Last thing I want to see is reminders of RL problems.

One thing I learned from working with Downies is they don't enjoy pity parties. They're quite happy being themselves without all the fuss.

wow sorry I mentioned it, I thought it was a kind gesture and given that people on Oceania had expressed an interest to do something for charities in the past and that other charity events have been supported in the past. I did not expect it to have this kind of reaction.

I am glad I never told anyone on Napa I was mentioning it cause I am sorry but this reaction makes me embarrassed and ashamed, my opinion and probably one not shared or even understood but it does.

I am not one that plays to escape or to sit behind my pc and pretend there are not other human beings on the other side of the text, I get to know people in and out of game and have made some great friends doing so.

I never tell them don't tell me your problems right now I am playing, I show support understanding and compassion as I would any other time I encounter a human being face to face the fact that it is just text means nothing to me I still see the people.

Again sorry I mentioned it I did not do so to interrupt your game time, I thought it was something that was heart warming and a kind gesture.

I feel sorry for the people in this game with such a bad life irl that they need to come to this one and try to rid themselves of real life, i really do.

I however do not accept that they should try and stop other people who are perfectly happy with some form of RL effecting the game from doing what they wish especially if it is for a good cause and for the benefit of atleast some of the populous

Amathist I think you should go ahead with anything you want to plan or take on on our server as I am sure there are more people just like me who would be involved *time permiting*

and if you people want to keep RL out of UO quit insisting on RL meets with 'characters' from the game

I don't think anyones trying to stop her, I think shes pissed due to the lack of support which she is equating the shard to having a lack of caring and compassion.

Tarring everyone with the same brush because they haven't jumped all over a cause that shes see as noble is not going to gain supporters.

Shutting up and getting on with it might though.

You do not know me or what I think or feel so perhaps you should be the one to shut up for a change. I have not tarred anyone I have expressed my feelings just as everyone else has.

Am I upset at the response this thread has gotten - when I asked "SHOW YOUR SUPPORT" damm right. I thought it was something that would be received as a heart warming event not an inconvenience to the community or something that plagues on peoples game time.

As other events just like this have been given the support before and I know for a fact that some of the people who have responded negatively to this thread in the EVENT LEADERS MEETINGS that where held last year suggested and supported the idea of donating to charities so how do you win.

I did not ask for put downs or negative responses I asked for those who wanted to to show support. Are you all entitled to say and do as you please. Yes but just because you feel that way does not mean I will change how I feel and does not mean I have to just ignore it and not feel upset by it.

Will I go on to do what I feel is right any way YES because that is who I am and what I stand for. I am just disappointed by some of the people on this shard and feel I have every right to be.

I work about 6 hours a week with a downsindrome boy. He hates more then anything else being made to feel different in ANY way. For that reason alone i will say no, i dont want anything to do with it.

*sigh* It is not about treating anyone differently it is about raising money for research and for supporting the needs of down syndrome children and there families.

Hence why a father started the thread to show his support for his child and to raise money to aid research for a syndrome that affects his child and his family.

Such charities have enabled research that over the years has increased the life expectancy of these children from just 9 years to 90 years.

This is about quality of life not isolation or discrimination of any kind it is aimed at helping just like any charity, just like breast cancer charities, just like lifeline just like Canteen.

Any way I have nothing more to say on this matter, I have expressed how I feel and I intend to help where I can. Everyone else can do and say as they wish.

Australia has the highest level of funding for mental illness and dissability in the world. They have massive support stratagies for families here too. Also i feel that Australians fundraising for an American charaty doesnt help us in any way.

Now raising money for an animal welfare charaty... thats another story. Id be in on that. Earthwatch Institute World Wide Fund for Nature or my personal fave World Land Trust with the patron Sir David Attenborough.
