I have found that a trap installed right next to the bush will do the trick.. and usually only one is needed.. I have the same issues with cranes in Zento.Brilliant

That would be handy. Being able to secure your own stuff (a la bulletin board) would take some burden off the GMs.

This seems to be the confusion. I think people are setting the mailboxes to "anyone" or "friends" because they think the setting determines who can place items in the mailbox.

From reading your helpful posts the mailboxes work like this:
1. Anyone can place an item in the mailbox if they can access the box location.
2. The setting determines who can remove items from the mailbox.
If you want a friend only mailbox, put it in an area that only friends can access.

I secured mine, I believe. I imagine you can lock it down as well, but then I figure you'd have to unlock to remove items from it.
You have to secure it, not lock it down, and set access permissions to "Owner Only". If you lock it down, you would have to unlock the whole mailbox in order to take out items.
