Have to appreciate a message board not run by fascists.

Man-o-man… I just wanted to say this for the record:

And NO… it's not this site. Nor does it have to do with anything about UO or games in general. In fact, it makes me appreciate the Stratics UO boards far more then I ever have before. I just wanted to share this with my fellows in UOHall.

I wont say the name of the site… or the boards I’m talking about, but know it's a Canadian based company. Canada, a leader in the world of truth and justice. I’m sure not knocking my Canadian friends or the countless innocent people like us on both sides of the boarder. Maybe it's just how companies are run. There was an electronic manufacturer in my city that ran itself into the ground, blaming the workers here… when it was the management doing the worst job. Honestly, I think they set up shop here to avoid the labor laws in Canada. That’s what my friends in Canada suggested.

Never the less… this site in question, it's a site trying to gain space on the world market for providing a service to many people of all walks of life. I’ve been a member for several years, however it hasn’t been much help or worth. Making suggestions was always hard… as it is when you have countless users and no customer service department. They set up message boards. I stayed away from them for the longest time. Just no desire to join another discussion community. I found that this is where they hid the suggestion box for the company. So I wrote a nice little item, making my innocent little suggestion to make the gears work just a little better… maybe. In a couple hours it was locked by moderators. Apparently, they don’t want any suggestions… despite asking for them. People who don’t read a post and respond with the wrong assumption… is not new to me. No offence… I see it here from time to time. But to be asked a question and have no ability to answer? That’s just insane.

This site, in question, they make it impossible to even ask the moderator why or why not. I wasn’t even being my standard pixie frisky business! Not even close. This was a little more about business… not fun and game-play oriented. It really makes you appreciate this site way more, I’ll say. A few obnoxious posters… but at least you can actually have a conversation! If you are having a problem with play or even issues with another user, this staff will do their best to help out, not attack you. Not this staff. I can't exactly say that about the LAST one… but this one is much better and then you have all the EMs and reporters now vs. last time. A big difference between a community and just a soulless ‘cooperation’ want-to-be.

I didn’t say a single rude thing in my post on the other site… not even a “hint” of a rude thing. I wasn’t even allowed to respond to what others posted to or any question the moderator had. I just think it's very closed minded if you can't suggest even a small thing without being slapped down.

It's like this one business in my town a good friend was thinking about buying. It's a hair dressing studio. You all know how hard it is to keep a small business active and thriving in this day and age. The old owner had the business for years, wanted to retire, yet she was always trying to add new services to raise traffic and compete with chain businesses of the same type. Her biggest problem was that her business shrank into the background on a busy street… and her sign was white with green writing, in script! Not bold text. Not eye-catching! It's not like she had neon signs in the windows and the building was rather drab in color anyway. Frankly, if you looked at the main room… it looked like it was a perfect example of 50’s décor. Modern tools, but horribly outdated. When I suggested they update the main sign that everyone on the street passed every day… they didn’t lock me out of the shop. I wasn’t refused service on my return. I wasn’t forbidden the ability to buy the best shampoo I’ve ever had. I’ve been back a few times.

*No joke. Every time I go to that business, I really do pass it by every single time because of that sign. hehe. It just blends way too much and the street is so busy.

People get drunk with power… but the rules of sites and business are set by higher management. If management doesn’t want suggestions… why open a suggestion box? All that will result is users ether quit all together or go to the competition. That’s basic business. And here… we don’t pay, thank goodness. Imagine paying for service like I was telling you about.

Even in the good 'ol US of A, freedom of speech is a right only in a public forum. A privately owned message board is not a public forum.

Edit: A company could have a message board that the only permitted speech was positive comments regarding the CEO's hair.

Oh yeah, babe. Trust me. I fully understand that. This is not my first and only message board, however it may be my only for awhile more. I have seen some crazy stuff in years past. I think this company in question is horrible. The last few hours I've been PMed with rude messages from one of their staffers who clearly is a little tin Hitler. Even telling them I would never post again and close my account if they didn't stop harrassing me wasn't enough.

Also why bother coming to a website, such as stratics, and pancake about "Acme Co." Doesn't seem like it is accomplishing much of anything, just another mask wearing 99%er?

By far my favorite message board to post on, and where I post the most often is in Sweden.
Paradox Software makes a small stable of niche market games (Avalon hill type strategy) and has a pretty strong following from the user base.

But, the game developers and mods are very strict.
I have seen posters have their accounts wiped, and every post renamed 'Software Pirate", or "Thief" when the developers find they did not pay for the software.
(Accounts are bound to your support...so this is very bad)

Negative statements had best be constructive. The types of dev bashing post that go on in UHall would get you perma-banned on paradox board.
You can make negative post, but be sure you are factual, state possible solutions and do not use biasing language, like calling a particular country name after a negative word....like the title of this post.

Not sure the type of gamers who play MMORPG would do well with that type of environment. I suspect UHall has the player base dialed in and allows the right level of noise for the type of players.

I know nothing about the CEO of this site… but this is clearly not aimed at him. I have no clue if this is even a Canadian based system (Stratics). It's still miles away from the dreadful company in question I’m talking about. Planets away. We play a game, world wide… have fun and all that. If anything, it also pays a compliment to this CEO for not allowing such nonsense to take place here. A thousand thanks to him or her.

Hell… I would easily give all the staffers here a big hug for being far better then the staff of years ago. All but one. Seems every barrel needs a bad apple… but one bad apple doesn’t rune the bunch. Every club. Every group. Every gathering of friends has one of those someplace. Every family... some are all bad. hehe

It looks to me like the intent of the post was to not only vent a bit, but also to thank the staff here for our work and point out that Stratics is not as bad as some people would make it out to be. It could be much, much worse.

But that's just from my point of view.

The title didn't say, "Have to appreciate a message board not run by Canadian Fascists, and all Canadians are Fascists..."

I swear, some days people are just looking for something to get their virtual panties into a hyperbolic twist.

It is disheartening to hear of companies who claim to want input from customers & staff but actions show they do not. Not only does it miss opportunities for improvements but makes morale less than if ideas were never solicited. The touted Eight Wastes to proactively avoid within Six Sigma leaning companies (which the company you refer to is clearly not) are the Waste of:

I'm sure your submitted idea to the evil board was well written and professionally conveyed - you have a knack for the written word.

Some companies with ego of only their opinion/idea/way can be the best will fail in time most often. The oriental countries were classic in the 80's & 90's with early efforts in US to this philosophy of truly listening to the workers and customers voices to provide greater 'quality' & efficiency of process and leg-up for those who truly practiced it, not just preached it.

And yes Stratics does provide a welcoming platform for ideas, concerns & community, always with oversight providing mutual respect & professionalism.

PS keep your worries within your circle of influence, and not beyond, for best maintenance of peace-of-pixie-mind.

As for anyone else who is upset because of the word fascist, nobody is saying that all Canadians are fascists. You're being too sensitive. Please take a chill pill and re-read the OP. Pixie is talking about one particular message board run by one company. It's not an attack on the entire country.

Sometimes (this might be only me i m not sure) i dont know i offended someone unti they start to behaive odd

My point is that if your opening line offend people it does not matter how good your suggestion is they most likly lock your thread or ignore you

If i take your example and start with the opening line HI there old fart i m sure the lady would tell me to leav and never come back

On msg boards like this one and others it is so hard to know what offend people when u cant look them into the eyes
Thats why i always try to look at what i could have said wrong or done wrong first before i start blame others
