Has anyone found a use for Skrees?

Just curious if anyone has trained theirs up all the way and found a use, maybe in a group, even? For me, the melee is too low, and the mana runs out too fast due to constant sleep spam without consideration as to whether the target is "sleeped" or not.

I've got one that's partially trained but I have a hard time staying motivated to train it. The entire time I'm using it to kill stuff, I'm asking myself why in the world anyone thought the darn thing needed to take up 4 control slots.

I got one up to all 90s and found it couldn't kill a poison elemental unless I peaced the thing to stop it healing up. I've a feeling it's not quite 'working as intended'. It's getting fat in the stable now.

I'm wondering the same thing about iron beetles...

By the way, do skrees aggro when you try to tame them?

They get mad, like other "big" things if you don't tame it right away. Which can be a pain since they do sleep.

I had one up to all 90's and my general thought on it was the same as Petras. Even in PvP their resists are poo, and the damage is crud. Also it doesn't seem the sleep very often from range, if at all.

I released mine back into the wild. :d Figured it would be happier there than sitting alone in the stables.

They're a perfect temporary training partner for all my more desireable pets.

Well, when they were first introduced in beta, Skrees used a wide variety if not all of the Mysticism spells, including Rising Colossus. The major problem there was the Rising Colossus, because after it killed the target the Skree wanted gone, the RC would aggo the Skree, or you! LOL.

Okay, I've been wanting to write up a pet balancing idea for some time now (Reptalons and Skrees come to mind, but haven't had much taming experience with Iron Beetles), which is why I ask.

I wondered if they could make a dolt of a Rotting Corpse, for example, so that another pet could train easier, but then, the nature of sleep, and how the next hit counters the purpose of the spell, sort of defeats the purpose.

Perhaps if the Skree could cast sleep against non-primary targets around it, rather than it's initial target; crowd control, hehe. Not sure how hard that would be to code, plus, the base DI is still rather low.

The skree could be helped a lot by being able to cast direct damage mysticism spells (bombard, eagle strike, nether bolt).

The skree could be overpowered by allowing spell plague.

But since the skree already casts magery spells, the other direct damage spells are kind of pointless.

What I have used my skree for is messing around with guild-mates in duels. If my guild mate attacks the skree, I heal it. If my guild-mate attacks me, the skree's sleep-spam makes it a very long, very difficult fight if I don't go on the offensive.

I haven't taken the skree in the field since my rune beetle can't play as well. I always figure a dead opponent is easier to handle than a sleeping opponent.

Well, the skree could be changed to cast Mass Sleep, which would do the trick, but not sure how good it would be.

I played around with Raptors for a bit too... meh... all the SA pets for pure tamers are rather lacking. I don't want anything better than a GD, but it would be nice to have similar options with varying stats/resists/skills.

For none tamers, or new tamers, the SA pets are nice. But... just how many new up and coming tamers are there compared to tamers who use cu's/greater dragons? And are the pets balanced between new tamers and old tamers?

Personally, I don't think they are.

Sleep becomes my biggest pet peeve, not pun intended. The Skree has magery, but after awhile, all the Skree does with its mana is cast Sleep ;D lol.

I think if the AI was tweaked it could be a tad more useful in certain scenarios. Like for example, a Rune Beetle still remains a viable option for tamers even though it can't tank as well as a Cu or a Greater Dragon because of the Beetle's unique abilities of armor corruption, poisoning, and bleed attacks. But what if the Beetle used poison/bleed on every attack?

Well, first off, that would have some PvPers on UHall in no time ;P and the other thing it would do would kill off the Beetle's chances of having over 100 Eval, because soon the Beetle wouldn't be able to cast magery spells.

So maybe another idea would be for a Skree to cast sleep in a defensive combo pattern, such as Sleep, GHeal self, etc, and not willy nilly.

That would be really fun to use at choke points lol although I assume it might be resisted by most mages, not sure, hm. I do think it would make it a little more worthwhile than it is now with mass sleep though...
