Im thinking of adapting the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" for an in game presentation... Does anyone have experience in this?

How many people did you have involved in the project?

Back in the very old days, our "theater group" (aka guild) used to do plays from 1-4 people, which were always written by our players. This was in the Red Eye Tavern on Napa from '98 - 2000.

Nowadays, your best chance to produce a play lay with the Golden Brew Players of Baja (linked above).

Hahaa ... what? You'll have to make sure there are plenty of drugs on hand for the lead ;P ... I did a short play once with a handful of people.

There's an hour long fully programmed play called "The Trial of Ricardo" that uses more than a dozen NPC actors, thousands of playscript commands, and even includes special effects.

You should see if they'll reactivate it on a test shard or something!
That's a good idea. I missed most of it at the time due to having things come up in RL.

For player plays, that's been done since the beginning. I remember players planning it before UO went live. That and many other things like chess tourneys and campfire story telling. All small events usually, but it was always interesting that these things went on in UO.

Transcript.

I am assuming the reenactments that were done on a regular basis follow the actual transcript exactly.

Casca, btw, won this trial largely by dropping most of the charges after the evidence had already been presented; a questionable move and one that prejudiced the court greatly, I should imagine. That doesn't mean Ricardo shouldn't have rotted in jail; it means this was an early preview of what Casca was.

My old guild (Europa Auction & Events) performed a couple of plays. Two of them were re-enactments of historical events; Lord British' meeting with the Timelord and the argument between British and Blackthorne that lead up to the Order & Chaos wars. Another play we did was a Christmas play.

We had between 2 and 5 people involved in these productions.

But you want to adapt Fear and Loathing? I agree, it is a cool movie. Though I don't think it will translate to play very well to be honest. And it translates even less well to UO...

Oh, and a *thumbs up* to Tim for Ricardo's Trial. That was awesome!

*looks askance @ Drac*

Kind of a "classic movies channel"?
*shrugs*

>I believe< the player was asking players about PLAYERS efforts ...
*shrugs*

Though >> it would be nice, if you could smuggle a note back into an active Dev type ... about giving the players
TOOLS/gizmos where a players house could be rendered "courtroom quiet" & un armed and spell free ...
hecklers suck at garden parties ...
especially when they can't be dismounted and muted / invised/ejected

For general admission types of plays ... hmmmm :danceb:

I own a theatre in Second Life, I do plays weekly. Biggest piece of advice I can give is to keep the play under 20 minutes or half the people there will be looking at a web browser and youll be performing to a bored audience. Attention spans on the interwebs are made of fail and lose and short stuff.

Every day I am on, I put on a one man show called "Death of a (insert template I am playing here)". :)

OK, really bad joke there.

I have heard of some people putting on plays, although I have never attended any. You could also go ghost or stealth through some RPers doing their thing. Some of them a extremely creative, and once you get the hang of the "characters", they can be very fun to watch (drama, comedy, etc.) :)

I own a Theatre on GL's...

Though it's seldom ever used. I have many idea's on how it could be handled as far as "ticket" sales and things of that nature go.

As far as plays we rehearsed one once and were close to production when the lead producer left UO... and after that someone stole the play... so it was never finished.

More often than not weddings have been held there are events like our annual Halloween Costume Contest.

However the space is always available for rent.

I have an idea about the city of Brit's theater. The King's Men Theater I think it's called. Never used but I think its more of a design flaw. Ever noticed how the stage and the front seats you can see all the stage. Now if you set in the back you cant even see the stage. Maybe the devs could rebuild it for the public to use to have plays on their shard.
