In a behind-the-scenes look at Halo 4 over on Polygon, Microsoft Studios head Phil Spencer talked briefly about that importance. He noted that Halo is a “three billion dollar franchise”, and that it’s the “most important entertainment product in the company.”
Finally, when asked if Halo 4 is the most expensive game Microsoft has ever made, Spencer replied, “Absolutely. Nothing’s even close.”
Of course, the question now is if all of that investment will pay off in the end. I can definitely say that—as much as I appreciate what Bungie put together for the series in the past–this feels like a noticeable step up for the franchise. It’ll be interesting to see how fans react to 343 Industries’ first real venture into the Halo series.
