Ok, there's two schools of thought here that everyone is gonna Johnny Storm me with, so I will admit them up front.
1 - The High Seas expansion JUST came out, and it was chock full of content. I am sure the massive majority of the programming staff has not only spent the time to build it, but have been chasing bugs and this is their main area of focus.
2 - Beggars can't be choosers. If you want a loaf of bread, and only got the crust -- would you prefer to have nothing at all? Given the circumstances, the devs could have quite easily said no Halloween this year due to item 1 on my list.
But, still.
This year's Halloween event smacks of a lack of effort. The trick or treating was NO different from last year, and it's obvious they just threw a switch to turn it back on. Just a LITTLE effort like ONE new treat would have been nice.
The pumpkins using player nametags is very scattershot and inconsistent. Good ol' Nox of Sonoma must be liked by someone up there (erm, or Down There, since its halloween), because EVERY THIRD PUMPKIN is named after him.
The Hellhound Event had a lot of sizzle (quick event, and I gotta admit those demon hellhounds look cool!) but it's such a one-and-done shot. There's no story, no reason, just a monster creature upgrade. And per usual, he's insanely hard to take down.
I know the paragon of ingratitude is that kid sitting by the Christmas Tree over his open present, and looking at his parents, saying "Is this it...?!! That's ALL I get?"
But honestly, I kind of feel this way. It was a Skimpoween, it felt like it was thrown together in a week.
And going back to disclaimer 1 -- High Seas is by far my favorite expansion in years, and it was a tour-de-force, and I love it. However, compared to last year, with the Crystaline Essence and masks? This is like following a steak dinner with a PBJ. And the crusts were still on!
Flame on, folks.
