Half-Price Sale at The Game Code Store October 19-November 2?

According to the UO Japan site, in honor of the game's anniversary, several items will be sold for half-price at their game code store from October 19th through November 2nd. The sale will apply to the Rustic and Gothic Theme Packs, the High Seas Booster, the Captain's Bundle, the Stygian Abyss upgrade, and the 11th Anniversary Collection.

There have been times in the past where the Japanese players were able to take advantage of special campaigns/sales that weren't made available to players elsewhere. (The availability of the original ToT dyes to Japanese players a couple of times if they bought certain other items comes to mind.) Also, most of us who live outside of Japan are unable to try to use the Japanese gamecode store to order items (some people have figured out how to do it, though). So, my big question for the UO Team is whether or not this sale is going to be made available to everyone or just the Japanese players? And, if it is going to be made available to everyone else as well, why not announce it? The announcement was posted on the UO Japan site yesterday (10/17), but for the rest of us there hasn't been even one word about it posted.

When things like this happen, it's really tempting to think that some people at EA are on a campaign to deliberately aggravate and alienate their customers who play UO!

Due to the nature of UO being an online game/community, if theres a promotion for one localization then there should be a promotion for all localizations. Otherwise it offers an unfair advantage to those within that locale.

I also believe its illegal to do this in the EU/UK as it is unfair trading terms.

I mean since my home shard "Formosa" is now considered a japanese server, why can't they let us living outside of Japan players buy? .. unless of course they only sell to people in Japan? Then it's kinda sad for my shard since EATW doesn't exist anymore in Taiwan which means we don't get anything... kinda in the limbo world, neither Japanese, Korean, American, European and I don't think it will go to the upcoming new China servers. :/

This half price sale would make an excellent apology for the account migration debacle--which is clearly the fault of EA, and not that of the devs.

In any case, now that we know about the sale, not being able to take advantage of it is like rubbing salt in our wounds.

I would GUESS that they are trying to prevent some people from buying from the Japan store. Maybe some form of IP routing? I would suggest trying to go through a proxy and attempting to purchase.... if you wanted to buy something from their store.

This isnt the first time they had a promotion we don't. All areas should get the same treatment. But then what am I saying I pay more than any american players and always have done. I'd buy another SA upgrade and probably even HS if they went half price

I have paid these people for 14 years. Can you imagine actually paying a person for something for 14 years????

The Japanese promotions have always been a slap in the face to the original people who have kept this game running. It's more than wrong. If people in America would have done this we would have been racists. What do you call it if some other nation does it?

Here's the thing. They KNOW they have us exactly where they want us. We have too much of our lives invested in this to quit over anything they do to us. We know it and they know it.

There is a real concept called right and wrong. It is wrong to allow any person or group of people to have an unfair game advantage. It would be wrong if I did it, and it is just wrong when they do this sort of thing...

Just because you have the power to do a thing does not make it a good thing to do.

I wouldnt pay for anything in the store at thier normal price. Its overpriced especially considering we pay to play the game. Half price and I might think about it, otherwise.. not a chance.

If they really wanted a gold sink, they could put the stuff up for sale for millions of GP. Since there is so much laying around, that should shed off at least a part of the gold.... or maybe not.

They could even make this purchase with virtual money only available to veteran players (3 or 5 year accounts). Just to make is so some gold bying noob would still have to pay.

Just a personal thing I guess, but it's pretty well documented that it completely destroys a games economy. We've had a couple of years to gather data on it, so it's not really an arguable issue.

Even the bannings a couple of years ago that removed 10s of billions of gold out of the UO economy was just a drop in the bucket.... this wouldn't even scratch it.

There are still people scripting, still scripting for gold- until that is resolved, you can't even begin to correct the economy.

Yeah, me too. I'd probably go ahead and get the recent booster for my accounts. I don't understand why we can't buy the same items and have the same sales. I was very disappointed recently when I wanted to buy a glowing lady bug and discovered we can't get them in the US store.
