Guild Titles

Does anyone know of a reason why certain guild titles are not allowed?

For instance ... I can give someone the Guild Title 'Legendary Tamer'. I cannot however the guild titles 'Legendary Bard' or 'Legendary Mage'. Similarly the title 'Bardic Tamer' is also disallowed.

All look harmless enough and im sure there are many more that are not allowed.

Can anyone give a reason why? Is there a list somewhere of disallowed guild titles?

If I had to venture a guess, it would be that for some not so obvious reason the titles conflict with a Name Filter.

I always had a Character Named Enigma in UO. When I returned I could not create a character with that name. I suspect it is probably due to the Quest Giver Enigma.

On the Other hand I wanted to have MaD as my Guild Acronym and that was refused. While there may be a guild on my Shard with that Letter Combination, I have never seen it.

I'd like to know too. I tried to give my GM beggar/chef the title of 'Homeless Chef' and it blocked me. I could use 'Homeless Cook', but it just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Submit this as an FoF question. People will complain when they see it, but they would complain regardless of what is asked and answered.

I would like to know too. It would be nice to find out a list of what we cannot use too.

It seems to be pretty much any word that is the title of a skill in the game. Like warrior, mage, rogue, etc. It used to be allowed but for some reason it was changed a few years ago.

Tamer seems to be the exception then as it accepts that ok.

I have a feeling that since tamer wasn't an original skill title (100 taming was "ranger") that it was never added to the list when the titles were rearranged.

One of my earlier experiences in UO back in 98 was that I wanted to make a character named "Bard" after the guy who killed Smaug. Even then, the titles weren't allowed as character names or guild titles.

The word 'Neophyte' is blocked as well.

I do not recall that being blocked before. It used to be a title in our guild many years ago for probationary members.

I would be greatly surprised if politically correct nonsense doesn't play a role in this.

That said, there is still much in game text, be it char names, guild titles, etc, that should not be allowed in an environment where kids are permitted.

But what is not "kid friendly" about the word 'cook' or 'legendary' or 'Neophyte'?

You are correct though, there are words that should not be allowed in an environment where kids are permitted...but the question is, should we allow the words, or the kids? Because UO used to be 18+ only.

Legendary and Neophyte are part of the Skill Titles. Cook is a profession of an NPC (usually found in the taverns).

Since they are used by NPCs, that is probably why we cannot use them to name our characters or as guild titles. Seems a bit silly, but that is the way it is.
