So far, it's hardly been a great success - so I'm starting with a couple of assumptions that people are perfectly free to argue against, but I reckon hold true, to see what we can actually build -
Waiting for the involvement of the EM is going to get us nowhere - Borbarad's covering what he can, but we don't have a full time EM, and honestly even when we get one, it seems pointless to just use the Governors as a prop or addition to the EM. Sure we can't make 'rare' items worth millions, or create monsters on demand (though I have worked out a way we can at least make some 'speak' so we can make them part of a storyline we want to try!), but surely there's other things we CAN do?
Nothing we can do is going to appeal to everybody, or even in all probability a majority of people, but I'm pretty confident we can involve some, and if things turn out to be fun, that will lead to us involving more.
So, what can we do ... a couple of ideas, but there surely must be more out there so please, post yours (preferably along with how you'll help us get them going!)
In the past, the 'open peerless hunts' players kicked off were always pretty popular and reasonably attended, but got to be a chore for the people setting them up, and when those folks were away for whatever reason, it all tended to fall apart - but with 9 Governors, can we work up at least a rota so that people know on a given evening, something will be going on, peerless or net toss or trip to the newer 'encounters, anything that a few people might feel like joining in?
On other shards, public events like festivals, parties, markets and such have been reasonably well attended, can we get something moving for those on Europa? We can run competitions for all sorts of things, from in-game written fiction to foot races across the map - we have 9 governors, most of us have friends, surely we can get enough characters to staff things like these?
I know in the past Emile tried to get a bagball competition going (after all Europa pretty much invented the game!) but it petered out - but now we have town loyalties, can we use those to back up support for teams? I'll gladly do the admin for such a league, if there's interest - but we're only likely to get interest is someone starts encouraging it, and I won't be able to do that alone.... but with 9 governors, plus others, it seems bizare if we can't get ANY action going on such a thing.
I'm not particularly wealthy in or out of game, but some sorts of prizes are perfectly possible if we reckon people are only after 'stuff' (which I actually don't believe is the only thing people find attractive enough to turn out for, but we'll have to see). Many people we know are willing to help, we can surely get some things happening on what is supposedly one of the more populated shards?
(On the line of 'hunts', I'm working on a 'governor related' small trip against the Yew brigand camp -the items the brigands there carry are pretty much 'new dungeon level' loot, so worth getting, working with a group of people is usually fun, and if we gate folks to and from the fight and the 'city guards', they can opt to take the brigands prisoner and back to the guards to raise loyalty (which of course means they don't die and hand out shiny loot, but there should be enough brigands spawned to keep both options running) and having some clues, links and such to follow on into a story involving the pirates, and maybe Tokuno, with some things being 'findable' in the camp that will be clues to what comes later. People claim they like the ongoing stories, so let's make a couple...
No matter who the EM is, or whether we even have one - people keep praising the 'community' in the game and that's the players, we can use the governors posts and systems to build that without relying on someone else to do things for us.
