Gorgon Lens is Broke

So after spamming at the Great Lakes Luna bank all day to buy either Gorgon Lens or crystal dust, I finally just worked alchemy up to 75 to make the blasted things myself. My sampire got the broken crystals from the unfrozen mummies with a few deaths figuring out how to get in the mummy room. Then my crafter finally made the Gorgon Lens, which was a pain because you loose crystals making the dust on failed attempts, then loose the crystal dust on failed attempts to make the Gorgon Lens. Weird little item, looks like a big dragon scale. My sampire then got keys for Medusa and applied the Gorgon Lens to his Mace and Shield glasses. It put 32 "Gorgon Lens" charges on the glasses. Yet I was still turned to stone and had copies made of me. I didn't last but like 5 minutes and it burnt up 17 Gorgon Lens charges, leaving me with 15 Gorgon Lens charges left on my glasses. What gives???... what a wasted evening of gameplay!!

The lens isn't 100% "Medusa proof" as I've gone through a myriad of Gorgon lenses myself. Don't get me wrong, the lens DOES work, but again, it doesn't grant absolute protection against her petrifying gaze/ability. Please note! I don't know if this is how the lens is suppose to work and if this is how the Dev team intended the lens to work, but eh, it's better than nothing.

When you enter the Prism of Light, make sure to scan the floors because the crystals that you need in order to make the powder spawn on the ground as well. Just be careful when trying to pick them up because sometimes they're in a high spawn/aggro area. If anything, it makes the job of gathering crystals a little less time consuming because free crystals on the ground??? I'm there!

A group of us hit Medusa's lair the other night, and after a long, interesting, fun, and bloody battle, we finally came out on top. The great thing about her lair is that there's an ankh on the East side of the room so if the sushi hits the fan and folks are too busy trying to cope with the statues turning to life or Medusa herself, just head over there to the ankh, and you're good to go. It was only after the fact that (after leaving Medusa's lair) that I notice something in my backpack: I received a gargoyle only weapon called Petrified Snake (two-handed mace weapon). It's amazing that folks are attempting to solo Medusa, but it's just that much more fun with a group of friends or even random folks. We all had a blast!

Good luck, man, and who knows? Perhaps a member of the Dev team can respond to the Gorgon lens thing.

Run Medusa without the lens. I think you'll find that, while the lenses don't afford perfect protection, they certainly make a big difference.

The first time I encountered Medusa was in the closed beta with four other people, and this was without the Gorgon lens. Oh man, it was interesting and fun to say the least; we were getting petrified like nobody's business. Like Syrus said (listen to this man), there is a noticeable difference when confronting Medusa with (or without) the Gorgon lenses.

Gorgon lenses: Don't leave home without it! I usually have one Gorgon lens already applied to my Mace and Shield Glasses (or Folded Steel Glasses), and I also have a spare lens in my pack.

For it to burn half the charges off in 5 minutes and still be getting turned to stone and copies made of oneself?? Seems at best it's just not worth using Gargon Lens. Twas not a total loss as I now have 75 alchemy skill which I'll take to 100 sometime soon. Potions for my other characters and the craftable dyes are nice. Thought I was killing two birds with one stone, but as it turns out it seems the Gargon Lens isn't all that it's hacked up to be.

KK, maybe it is working fine and as intended. It was my first time at Medusa so yea, I don't know what it's like without the lens. Man they're a pain to make getting the ingreds and stuff, lol. Ohh well.

you guys aren't making the lenses with the correct scales, that's why they're not working so well

ok, here's the big secret (even though it was posted and I guess noone paid any attention) - you have to make the lenses with the bright blue scales you get from medusa herself while you're fighting her

you take a dagger, double click it, then target medusa while she's still alive and you'll sometimes get bright blue scales (most of the time she just gets pissed and starts beating on you - hehe)

when you use those scales, you're 100% protected from turning to stone, not 80 or 90%

there, now you have my contribution for the day ... enjoy

Thanks Kojac, I read your post and gathered a set of keys for my stealther to go in and skin her clean. He got 12 of the bright blue scales without incident before she was out of them. I used those to make 4 Gorgon Lens. Slapped one on my glasses and took the other 3 with me. You are correct, I wasn't petrified once. Burnt through almost 3 Gorgon Lens and defeated her pretty easy, to be honest I thought she was easier than Dreadhorn. During the fight I skinned her clean and got 13 scales so now I can just run her again and again as long as I remember to skin her during the fight. A couple of her croonies got loose, not hard at all really to dispatch them. She let like the 4th one loose but it didn't wander down to me so that was it for them as well. I cleaned them up after I defeated her. I got the Petrified Snake arty drop in my pack, the Medusa blood, and one of the Undead Gargoyles had a Undead Gargoyle Medallion. Took me about 15 minutes to defeat her. Thanks again for the info!!

Medusa? where is she? underworld or abyss?
The altar that opens a gate to her lair is in the Abyss pretty much due east of the spiral staircase that leads down from the Underworld. There's some twists and turns you must take through some canyons to get there though. It takes 4 rare eggs to spawn the gate to her lair, one can get those from snake holes that are in that general area.
