I have had some great friends in this game over the years. Most have already moved on to others games. I love UO. It was the first online game i ever played. I played the first few years. Quit, then came back. I love the new fishing quests but I can't get over all the item based features in the game now. That's the way it is. O well. I'm not saying a classic shard will save UO but it would keep some of us playing. January 1, 2011 end date.

Sad to see Ultima Online loose another player.

Even more sad, to see this happen because Ultima Onlina has become way too much an heavily item based game with all that this necessarily means like inflation, greed, dividing the player base into haves and haves not and so forth, players always fit in gear, mods and weapons to win and players always fit only to loose.......

I have seen so many fellow players over the years leave Ultima Online because it was shifting away from being skill based and going into too much hevily being item based that it ain't funny.

I wonder if, having all of the statistics, it could be known the balance of whether Ultima Online, eventually, gained more players for shifting into heavily item based or lost more players for leaving its being skill based.

Personally, my feeling is that it lost more than it gained.

Please bring back skill based to Ultima Online.

No need to be apologetic or negative about this game. It is still great. Why in earth did you feel the need to even write about it on stratics. Do you write on the forum of every game you decide to quit playing? Just delete the software, stop paying and move on. Sick and tired of reading these messages. Maybe I should write a note every day to let everyone know I am still paying for this game...? As if your quitting somehow should mean something to me...

It was seven years ago. I'd guess it's probably not comin' back. Also, there seems to be some discrepancy between versions of 'classic'. Everyone has their own idea of what it is, or so it seems.

Some of us didn't buy the game and pay our $10/month to hand over the crap that we worked hard to get to people who love non-consensual PvP. Get over yourselves already. It's getting damned annoying. Want pre-AoS back? Go to a free shard or create your own but for the love of all that is good and holy, STFU about it already!

It is not a threat to me. It is a threat to UO in the following ways.

1: A classic shard would require massive re-working of the game code. That equals Dev's time and Dev's time = $$. That money would be better spent fixing YEARS old bugs.

2: For the same reason as above but that money would be taken away from development of new content that can/will be for the enjoyment/benefit of E V E R Y O N E !

3: Same as above but, again, the money and resources wasted could be spent on better hardware that benefits E V E R Y O N E rather than the minority who want what they had a DECADE ago rather than what the game has progressed to.

Means people get a chance to post their goodbyes etc to friends without people turning it into ANOTHER classic shard thread, perhaps with the Goodbye thread more heavily moderated to remove anything but 'leaving' posts. Would keep things a lot neater.

It is saddening to see the state of UO's community nowadays. In the end it really seems like it has turned into another WoW type of community before OSI has been closed for good.

First, why cause so much problem because our fellow is making a quit topic? This has always been very common here on our stratics forums and I feel inclined to believe that the only problem here is his due reasons (pro classic shard). Also, look at the attitudes of people like Bill Gates OSD, accusing our fellow of having low post counts while 4 out of his last 5 posts were JUST smiles. You sir, genius and scholar, really think your addition to our community is, by no doubts, essential, right?

Also, I don't see why there's still classic shard talk around. Thanks god EA isn't making one and I still don't see how people are feeling unsatisfied with such decision. To the people who never known the classic era and are against one, well, they won't have one. And for the people who wanted a classic shard from EA.. Well I just hope they soon realize that OSI nowadays is just an abortion of old Origin, and that old UO is still pretty much alive (actually, way more alive than OSI itself) in the form of freeshards. Having the same company that have destroyed UO give birth to a classic shard would be the worst monstrosity possible to the eyes of the true sosarian.

This, that EA offers, isn't UO anymore. But you need to know that UO is still around, standing strong. Servers that have implemented new ways that -do- stop reds from killing inconsequently.. do exist. To continue blind is just an option.

as much as it would be great, mythic is never making a classic shard. there are some really well run classic free shards out there that probably have more people working on them then we have on our dev team. i get the feeling that everyone who constantly posts about a classic shard just refuses to use what already exists.
