Good System Specs For UO?

I'm about to upgrade my PC for the first time in about 7 years. So hopefully looking to get something that will allow me to play UO and maybe KR smoothly.

Really just looking for a bit of advice, as i'm sure a couple on here know a bit about this kind of stuff.

Is it best to go for a quad core processor with lower clock speed than a dual core with higher? This is confusing me

Is this any good, from dell:

Honestly, that system would run battlefield 2142 smoothly. What im saying is if your just getting it for uo thats way overkill.

I have a dell latitude centrino duo 1.6gb laptop with 1gb of ram and a crap video card and i run both just fine. I could probably use a little more ram to run KR better but thats about it

Uo is more about internet connection than hardware, which is one of the best external aspects of the game, and quite frankly is the audience they should go after for new subs (You dont need a rockin system to play uo).

Edit: Personally, I would try and stay away from Vista, but thats me. I've heard and seen too many problems with it, mainly around wireless.

I'm with the other poster ... that's overkill for UO only and <shudder> Vista? MS is actively supporting XP until Jun 30 then will carry it a bit more. XP/SP2 is stable, Vista just got SP1 after how long being out?

I have little problem with UO at all on a 4 YO AMD Athlon 64 XP with 512 MB RAM.

My experience with prebuilts of nearly all brands ... if you wish to modify them AT ALL during warranty/support period the TS folks will want you to remove mods back to original spec before dealing with you. I build my own because of that (Compaq and Dell experience).

Having vista installed actually means that that machine is just enough to run uo lol.

I have a step up from that actually. AMD 6000+ Dual core 6ghz with 4gb ram dual ATI X1950GT cards and dual raptor X 10k rpm hard drives. Win XP Pro on this machine though.

It is an overkill for uo but I do a lot of other things that require such an extreme pc. Mostly video stuff.

On another note though I would never go with dual video cards ever again. It has been an awful experience all around. I will tell you why in case anyone wonders what could be so bad.

Your video does not kick in until you are at the windows welcome screen. Because this uses crossfire to link the cards it has to wait until windows loads t load video drivers so you get a black screen until windows loads. If you have to trouble shoot the system this means opening the case and removing one of the cards so that you get video prior to windows loading and can see the bios screen.

Once your machine does load you can only get the benefit of both cards while running a single monitor. So if you have dual monitors but want to use the power of both cards you have to go into the options enable crossfire which effectively causes one monitor to go into standby mode then both video cards are linked and used to power a single display. Not really what I had in mind but most games are only displayed on a single screen and for most games this is the best option with a crossfire setup. Still this irritates me because I have dual monitor for a reason.

In the end you have to wait for windows to load to get video and remove a card if the system fails to boot so you can even see what is happening and when your not using crossfire to play a game your wasting the second card installed. Pointless eh.

Just spend the cash on a 1gb video card instead of being cheap like I was and grabbing 2 512mb cards to pair up. They do NOT equal a 1gb card lol.
