Two hearts joined often seems to those involved as a feeling that will last forever. But often circumstances and fate move across the landscape leaving one or both hearts seemingly shattered. A broken heart can in time be mended and made whole again. Love after all is the hope of us all, and the one thing most of us spend a life time in search of.
But what of a soul shattered and drained?
Unlike a heart, a person’s soul is not so easily fixed. If one is simply down, then those who care for that individual can seek to life their spirits and being them harmony again. But a soul drained of half of what made it is left with an emptiness where once that other half of them dwelt.
I was concerned from the start about severing the bond between Kanaye and Skylar. This was an area in which I have little knowledge of how to proceed. And in addition to worrying about the process itself, I could not see what would be left of the kitsune after the deed was done. At first he seemed fine, though with a great concern for the holes left within the ball he carried about. And though he seemed to enjoy his time sitting listening to Hun’ep play, there was an emptiness in his eyes.
It was good though to see him respond to another, and to watch as a relationship deepened between the two. Hun’ep and Kanaye had much in common. Both had been damaged in heart and soul, both sought a peace, and a sense of really belonging someplace.
And for all the turmoil this land has undergone, Aegis had an effect on them which encouraged a new sense of freedom and oneness that both had long lacked. But though they were now themselves, they still needed something to make them whole and happy. This Aegis nor I could give them, but within their time spent together they discovered this on their own.
Hun’ep spoke to me of Kanaye wishing to be bonded to her. He thought it would fix his soul and at the same time bring peace to her as well. Sitting with them in the Rest I told Hun’ep that the decision was hers, and that it must be entered into with her eyes wide open. I did not believe Kanaye could survive the loss of another bond. Both of them agreed that they wished to try to repair the last part of their being.
Again, the soul is an area where I am as much in the dark as most others would be. But there was one I knew I could call on. If he could not repair a soul, who could? After all, he was in his very nature divine. And so, dispatching a message, I asked Anfalas to come to Aegis.
When he arrived later in the day, he met with Kanaye and Hun’ep and questioned them as to what their wishes were. Like me, he wanted to be sure that it was something they both desired. And like me I am sure he noticed that it was something both of them needed. Once they assured him it was something they both wished to proceed with, we all went to Hun’ep’s room. Anfalas had said both would need rest after the bonding was complete.
Standing hand in hand, Izznet and I bore witness to the bonding.
Holding his hand slightly above her, Anfalas slowly moved in a line starting at her feet, and moving slowly up her body. As his hand moved, a lavender glow seemed to shimmer around her. Once his hand was over her heart, he paused a moment telling Hun'ep that this was her last chance to stop, after there would be no turning back. To this she nodded saying she was sure. Moving his hand to just above her eyes, he again paused as the glow gathered above her and followed his hand as he slid it over to where Kanaye’s ball rested between the two.
The ball shimmered and glowed as the lavender essence moved along it, not only filling the deep chasms in it, but swirling into a new pattern which spoke as much to serenity as the last swirl spoke to chaos. As I watched, my skin started to tingle and I could not suppress the shudder which spread through my body. Once done, and we were assured that both had come through the bonding well, Anfalas Izznet and I left the two to get the rest they needed. Anfalas returned to his home and Izzy and I went home to relax.
When they awake later, it will be a new beginning for Kanaye and Hun’ep. They will begin to discover that having another who is not only a part of your heart, but your soul as well can open the door to happiness undreamed of. It is my hope that this union grows in strength and love and a mutual respect and support for one another.
Izznet told me later that I was something special because I had worked so hard to bring these two broken souls together. She somehow thought I had given them my blessing. But in all truth, it is Hun’ep and Kanaye who have blessed me and Aegis. They are both of my heart, and knowing they are safe and whole again brings me great peace and joy.
