I think if players could all link together in some way to add walls around houses it would be cool but the mechanics behind something like that are a bit complicated due to existing statics like trees and rocks.
The area would have to be completely bare for one second if the houses were not completely aligned you would have a wall that is not a square box and to create anything non rectangular would be hard to calculate.
