I was at the Nightmare spawn in Ish and i come across this after about 90 mins.

Well the crying part.

I left my throwaway cu near the alter. And eventually i was taking a beating and went there to heal up real quick. Didnt think anything of it because the mare was targeted on me. Then to my absolute horror, the cu starts attacking the mare. With nothing for me to do except


Is there a % for the darker mare to spawn instead of the greyer version?

I'm sorry for you, it's always so upsetting when something like that happens.

I think all tamers have lost a good pet at least once because of a mistake or bad decision

Well i have a 3.8 dark mare now. And a 3.8 long hair and 4.0 short hair. Didnt really pay attention that there were different manes on them. Stable slots are filled I need to release some ... or get the 120 PS's.

not sure i understand if the cu was still tame or if you released him; cu's and fey attack low karma. but if he was under your control, pet stop, pet follow me, and then invis the cu would have fixed it. or release the Cu farther from the spawn.

as to your mares, didn't know about the mane, but the choice is obvious: release the 3.8

If I understand well he went there with a "disposable " Cu. One he tamed just to be able to kill the mares until he got a keeper to spawn.

Then he released the Cu to have enough control slots to be able to tame the mare. A Cu is 4 control slots, a mare 2 can't control both at the same time.

And a wild Cu doesn't attack or isn't attacked by mobs with negative Karma in the twisted weald, it only will aggro a low karma player. So I too would have though it safe to release near the mare.

But I noticed than when I release a pet, for a while it and the mobs around still act as if it was still mine. Meaning it'll be attacked by and will attack any aggressive mob around.
Guess that's what happened with the mare and the Cu.

As for witch one you should keep, well there isn't a lot of difference between a 3.8 and 4 mare because of it's very low resist.
1 or 2 % in each resist could be enough for that kind of difference and I don't think it would make a huge difference while hunting.

I would keep the one with the best str, HP, Phy resist first of all
The fire, cold and poison would be my second concern.

I wouldn't even bother with energy. It's so low it doesn't make a difference IMO.

But that's if I had no way to get a 120 PS and keep them all

I think that for as long as a previously owned pet continues to exist, it will always retain the tendency to fight other "bad" monsters while any player character is in the immediate vicinity with the one-time pet. It's not unusual to go to the Arctic Island and run across someone else's tamed and released polar bears and white wolves attacking the orcs and ice trolls. And if you wander around near the Zoo, sometimes you'll see random brown bears or timber wolves killing mongbats.

Does the mare have the same AI as a dragon? Meaning it can switch targets that move?


As to the Mares i have, trying to get that perfect black one with at least a 4.0. So i can have one of each color just not manes.
